There was always something I never understood, and that was how I had accompanied my best friend in leading the American troops through the second world war. After Steve had become Captain America, the two of us had discovered the majority of the 107th were either missing, captured, or dead, and so what did Steve plan on doing? Going and getting them, exactly.
As soon as I found out, I was sprinting from the pop-up compound and chasing after the car Steve, Stark, and Peggy were in. I quickly grabbed the back of the vehicle and hauled myself over the back into the seat. Peggy and Steve looked at me, Stark briefly glancing over to me.

"Why are you here?" Steve asked and I just smiled with a shrug and a scoff.

"You think you can go get James without me?" My blonde friend chuckled and shook his head.

"Of course."

We spent the night creeping through the woods after we had dropped from the plane, freeing captured militia, and searching the building for James Barnes, however, in the end, I had been separated from Steve in order to cover a larger area of the building.

"Is it permanent?" I recognised the voice around the corner and popped around the wall as the voice grew closer. I had ripped a slit up my skirt to allow easier movement, my skin and a few parts of my clothing being a little dusted and bloodied. In my hands I held a semi-automatic rifle with a serrated knife in my right hand, ready to use if I ran out of ammunition or couldn't work close range with the gun. It was already covered in blood with my skin appearing the same.

"You brought her with you?!" I heard James' voice snap, causing me to smile and look to my left at him and Steve. They both froze in their places at my appearance.

"She more followed me." I smiled brightly with a nod, James shaking his head and coming over to me, pressing a quick kiss to my temple before we followed Steve through the building. Everything on our route out was blowing up.

"What's the plan now, Steve?" I asked, slinging the rifle over my shoulders with the strap over my chest and the barrel pointing up. The knife was loosely gripped in my hand.

"A different route." We ran up some metal steps, well...the two boys did, I was trying my best in the heels I was wearing, similar to what Peggy wore.

"Captain America! How exciting!" A voice piped from across the metal catwalk above a dozen explosions. I shared a look with James. "I am a great fan of your films!" I was going to leave this to Steve, James using one arm on the railing to balance while the other was on my hip, his forearm crossing over my stomach as I stepped behind him. He was being protective. "So, Doctor Erskine managed it after all. Not exactly an improvement, but still, impressive." I gripped my knife as Steve punched this man in the face.

"You've got no idea." I tapped James' arm and pointed to the man Steve was now fighting. I swallowed thickly, a little disgusted.

"No matter what lies Erskine told you, you see, I was his greatest success!"

This man's face was slipping off, how is he any form of a success?

I gasped, turning away as he ripped of a mask of some sorts, revealing a bright red skull.

"Ew, ew, ew, ew-" I kept repeating, cringing into myself as James pulled me towards him so I wouldn't stray too far out of disgust.

"You don't have one of those, do you?" James asked his childhood best friend.

"You are deluded, Captain. You pretend to be a simple soldier, but in reality, you are just afraid to admit that we have just left humanity behind. Unlike you, I embrace it proudly."
