I know some people are sensitive to this topic, so I'll chuck a warning here, this chapter does involve cheating. It starts off as a Rafe x reader, but will finish as a JJ x reader. It very slowburn tbh, and very long...
I sat in the golf cart, wearing a cute little summer dress, sunglasses, and a stupid floppy sun hat that my mom had forced to take out today.Something about looking like a lady...? I looked up from my phone when I heard someone groan and dirt and gravel shift. Something that immediately caught my eye was someone ultimately being thrown onto the ground. When this kid took a swing at Rafe, I watched as the boy who was always so sweet to me, take his golf club and hit this boy in the stomach, and then the back. I slowly stood from my seat, watching curiously and in slight horror. Topper warmaking calls for him to stop as Rafe knelt beside this boy. Based on his treatment, I'm assuming he was from the Cut, what my friends often refer to the people living there as 'Pogues'. Topper and Rafe were on their way back over to me as I stared at the boy on the floor behind them, innocently concerned. I took a few steps towards the boys, Rafe dumping something onto the seat before turning to me, my attention still on this other boy.
"(Y/n), sit back down, we're moving on." His voice was sweet again, I glanced over to him, worry on my face. "What's up?" He seemed concerned for me.
"You're just going to leave him there...?" My voice was soft and quiet as I looked back to this boy, who was struggling to get up.
"He's a Pogue, shouldn't be up here anyway." He gently took my hands in his. "Come on, sweetheart." I hesitantly took my hands from his and took a few steps away.
"I'm going to go help him..." I whispered, offering a forced but disheartened smile. I saw Rafe's behaviour change a little in that moment, he became frustrated, I could tell, but he didn't say anything. I quietly walked over to this boy on the ground, offering my hand to him, which he quickly took and I pulled him to his feet. "I am so sorry about him..." His eyes finally landed on me, looking up and down. He let out a small laugh, shaking his head.
"Why are you apologising for him-"
"He's my boyfriend, and I feel bad that he's like this to other people, when he's so nice to me..."
"So he does have a heart?" He laughed, scoffing as he wiped the blood from his mouth. I shrugged a little, smiling sadly.
"My car is just out front, do you want a lift to wherever you were going back to-" He shook his head with a sigh.
"It's cool, really, my friend is waiting on my dad's boat, to finish some errands..." I offered another sad smile.
"Do you want me to walk with you?" He stared at me surprised. "So Rafe stays away?" He nodded a little bit, and I smiled genuinely, offering my hand. "I'm (Y/n)." He shook my hand.
"Pope."
"Cool name," We started walking. "So, what's all of this about Pogue's, and the Cut? What is it?" As we walked, he bluntly explained the logistics to me.
"The Cut is the 'poorer' side of the island, the working-class people. The other side is here, Figure Eight, home to what everyone calls 'Kooks', which are the wealthier people, handed life on a silver platter." I slowly nodded.
"So Pogue's are the opposite of Kooks?" Pope nodded, as I spotted a boat against a dock. "Is that your dad's boat?" He nodded again.
"Yeah, I've just got to wait for my friend now."
"I'll stay with you!" I smiled as we began to cross the dock. "Until he gets here of course! Then I'll be out of your hair." He offered me a smile.
"You're a really nice person, for someone who's dating that monster." He spoke under his breath as we climbed onto the boat, waiting for his friend to return.
