Melinda May

"We might have a big problem on our hands."

That beginning never ends well, especially when it's coming from Maria and is about what's happening within the four walls of Avengers tower. Taking in a deep breath, Melinda wishes she had just called Skye instead of Maria. The only reason she calls Maria is because she wants to get a proper mission report, Skye has the habit of leaving out important details.

"What did she do this time?"

"Oh, nothing. That's the problem. She's proving to be a perfect addition to the team."

And there it was, the one thing Melinda have been worried about for the longest time. She knew Skye would get along well with the Avengers; she also knew they would grow attached to her. It's a gift of hers and Melinda had learned first-hand that one can't fight her breaking through once walls.

"They will have a hard time letting her return back once she gets the all clear."

"I was afraid it would turn out like this."

"And yet you drop her off here?"

"It was the only way to get her to got to the hospital and get the surgery."

She could hear Maria laugh slightly on the other end of the line and Melinda rolls her eyes.

"So, what happen to make you come to this conclusion?"

"Like I said, she proved to be a missing link in the crew. Especially when she has taken down JARVIS connection to Stark's suits."

"She was hacking?"

"She looked quite happy to do it."

Melinda shakes her head. She realises that she's not all to surprise that the former hacktivist was having the time of her life, hacking into secret files. At least it's for a good cost this time around. She had done a lot of computer work since they had moved to the Playground, but Melinda had have a sneaky suspicion that the girl wasn't enjoying herself. That might also be a reason as to why she tried to spend as much time as possible in the lab, to feel like everything was like to good old days. Before HYDRA and the betrayals.

"Where is she now?"

"Once the Avengers return, Stark pulled her with him down to his lab to go over what he had download and she hacked. So far no one has heard anything from either of them, so I guess we should be worried about that part too."

"Yes, I'd be quite worried about that!"

At her comment, she can hear Maria laugh lightly, making Melinda roll her eyes. Of course, Maria would think this is funny, at least for the moment, she will not think it's funny when whatever Skye and Stark have been planning backfires on her. That will be a whole other phone call and it wasn't one she's looking forwards to have, at least she will be able to say I told you so.

"Anything else we should be going over before all hell breaks lose at your front?"

"She was a bit sad she wasn't able to be at the party, at least taking control over the Avengers mission and ordering them around seemed to make her a bit happy right before she was allowed to start hacking."

"Just make sure to keep a close eye on her, we did after all pick her up for hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D after all."

"I know I'm the one who sent you out on that mission, but I never got the full and proper report on what went down. I know Fury has the report, but he won't share."

Melinda couldn't help but to chuckle at the double meaning of that comment. They both know how well Fury likes to keep things to himself, then there's the fact that he's dead to the rest of the world.

"Well, Coulson and the traitor found her in her van, she had somehow managed to hack into S.H.I.E.L.D using a laptop we later learn she won in a bet. Not to mention she was using a public WIFI."

She can hear how Maria whistle at the information, making Melinda roll her eyes. Of course, Maria would think this was funny, and truth be told, Melinda can't help but to feel proud over the skills her rookie has. She's proud over all three of them to be correct, she had seen the three kids grown so much during this short time. Which was a test on their skills and ability, so seeing two of them ending up hurt and broken, broke her heart.

At least Skye and Fitz have grown closer than she first thought possible. The two of them had been close before all of this, their love for technology and pranking had brought them together, Simmons ending up as the one keeping them back from time to time. Watching it all had made Melinda think back to the times Fury had sent her, Natasha, Clint and Phil out on missions together before he learned it was a bad idea.

Which made her worried from time to time, especially once Trip joined the group. Phil had made a comment about it himself and that had just made Melinda more worried, if he managed to see it then it was a problem. Then Hunter had joined, and Bobbi return with Simmons and Melinda could just see all the trouble she would need to deal with, so having to send Skye to the Avengers were a small blessing, up until now.

Hearing a small knock on her door, Melinda looks towards it as it slowly opens. Seeing Fitz look into the room carefully, she waves her hand to let him know he can enter.

"Anything you need Fitz?"

"Leo there? Ask him if he knows a good way to get Skye or Stark out of the lab?"

Rolling her eyes, Melinda puts her phone on the table and hits speaker.

"You can ask him yourself."

She tells Maria and she can see the confusion in Fitz's eyes.

"Leo! Any idea of how to get your sister and Stark out of the lab? They have been there since the Avengers returned from their mission and not even Pepper have managed to get them out."

Melinda looks down at her phone, that was a part Maria had forgotten to mention earlier. If Pepper haven't managed to get them out, then they were definitely up to something.

"Knock on the door and tell Stark I have been trying to get in contact with him. I have a few things I want to go over with him about our little project."

And there was another thing making Melinda worried. She had accepted that Fitz looked over one of Stark's works. But the amount of time and silence he has put into whatever it is Stark have asked of him was making her very, very worried.

"I will give that a try, if that doesn't work, I will call you back!"

Maria tells them before the call ends. Taking in a deep breath, Melinda tries to fight the headache she knows were slowly growing.

"Anything special you needed Fitz?"

She asks, trying to get a hold of the situation.

"Oh, Coulson wants to ask you something. Now if you excuse me, I need to make sure I'm ready for when Tony calls."

Fitz tells her, before Melinda has a time to fully react to what he had told her, Fitz was out of the room once more. This day had turned out as a good one, now Melinda is quite sure it will be an awfully long one and that she will be on the phone soon again with more troubles.
