Fix the sky

"Okay, that was a fast run you two did. I hope you brought something good with you back."

Tony comments the moment Natasha enters the main common room, Maria made sure to take Skye directly to her room. She knows well enough that Maria is the right person to handle Skye in this moment, and since she is the only one to fully understand what is going on. Sure she had heard parts of the things Maria had softly spoken to Skye on the drive back, and the things she heard has made her worried. The fact that Maria had asked her to drive had sent of warning bells and she had tried to figure out what is going on, but the only thing Maria told her was that they have to pick up Skye.

Dropping down on the couch, pulling up her legs to place them over Clint's lap, she leans back. She can hear how Clint tries to protect about her actions, but he doesn't push her legs away, so she wins, again.

"We picked up Skye if that is what you want to hear."

She answer Tony a tired voice, this reply had the group on the edge.

"What?"

"Skye's back?"

"Didn't Agent May have some big mission that she needed Skye for?"

The questions were asked all at once and Natasha sees how Tony rises from where he was sitting.

"Sit down Stark. I don't know much, just that Maria needed to quickly come and pick up Skye. I don't know much more than that, Maria wouldn't give me information about what is going on and they were talking in low voices when we were driving back here. All that I know is that Leo is the one that made the call and I get the feeling that May doesn't know."

She tells him, but the doesn't movie from his standing position.

"Tony, if anyone will be able to calm Skye down and help her right now its Maria. We just have to be patient and wait. I have a feeling she will tell us all about what is going on when she comes down."

She adds, looking Tony in his eyes, narrowing her own as a warning. This time around he sits down and silence fall over the room. No one wanted to say anything in this moment, all of them worried about what could have happened to Skye.

After everything she had been trough with the operation and healing time, if anyone needs a break from everything it's that young woman. And that is not counting the things they have been learning about her past during the time she lived with them. Feeling how she's growing restless, she starts tapping her finger on the couch, lost in her own mind up until she feels a hand being placed her leg. Looking up she sees it's Clint and there is worry in his eyes.

"You were tapping away old stories again."

He says in a low voice, and she had not realised that she had been tapping in morse code once more. As she looks at him, she can at least she it's nothing bad this time around. Hearing the door to the room open only seconds later, all attention turns towards it, making Pepper come to a stop.

"What happened?"

She asks, lifting one eyebrow in surprise at the sudden attention she is getting, attention that is being directed away from her once they realise that it wasn't Maria or Skye.

"Maria and Natasha left for a drive and returned back with Skye. We don't know yet what has happened to her, Maria is still with her so."

Tony explains to Pepper and from the corner of her eyes, she can see the surprise in Pepper's own eyes when learning about this. She enters the room completely, taking one of the empty seats, joining the rest of the team in their waiting. It was almost half an hour later that when the door to the room opens once more, this time around it's Maria who enter.

The former agent looks drained, the tablet that Skye had given her during the car ride in her hand. Moving her feet back to the floor, she moves closer to Clint to leave an open space for Maria to sit down, which she does. The group of Avengers and Pepper looks at one another, waiting in silent for Maria to start speaking, no one wanting to force information out of her.

"We have a young woman within the walls that have developed powers, powers we don't know what they truly are yet. All we know, is that her DNA has been changed and she is terrified beyond anything I have ever seen. According to agent Fitz, she wasn't safe with her team, something else has change and he was afraid they wouldn't be able to handle the new change in Skye. And since we are the only once that he knows of that can stand Skye and help her learn more about her powers, he made the call."

Maria finally starts to explain, making the group look at one another once more. This was information they didn't expect to come out of Maria.

"What do you mean when you say her DNA changed?"

Bruce asks, Natasha wasn't surprised this is the question that he would bring up. Maria opens the tablet before she hands it over to him, Tony leaning over from his seat to be able to read what Bruce is reading, silence falling over the room once more.

"This is, this is absolutely crazy."

Tony comments and Bruce nods his head.

"I have never seen such a complete change in DNA. I will need to run a few tests on this, Tony, will you join me?"

Bruce comments and Tony nods his head, the two of them rises and heads for the door. Looking after them, Natasha is sure that they will not be seeing the two of them for the rest of the day. Shaking her head, she turns her attention towards Maria.

"Did she say anything else?"

She asks and Maria shakes her head.

"No, it was quite the battle to convince her that she needs to sleep. She's more broken than before and it will take time for her to get past this new barrier."

Maria answer and Natasha nods her head, she had a feeling about that and after everything they had seen when she was going through the healing, well, at least now they will be a bit more prepared on what will go down.

"Well then, we will be there for her no matter what."

Natasha points out and the once left in the room nods their head, Skye is one of them and they will make sure that she is alright, even if it means keeping her hidden from the people she was looking up to as her parents.
