She didn't want to make the call, but she knew she had too. Coulson was growing more and more frustrated, not being able to understand or find out more about the carvings he has done is putting to much of a strain on him. Then they have the sudden uptake on HYDRA activity and the problem that is Skye's father. And the fact that Raina had contacted them once more, in a try to get away from both HYDRA and Skye's father just made her more worried.
So, for everyone's safety and not to mentions sanity, they needed the best hacker out there right there beside her. A hacker that she had managed to train into a good agent, an agent that she now knows have learned so many more moves and plays, making her even more dangerous than before leaving for Avenger's tower. She had however not told Coulson or Fitz about the fact that Skye is returning, thinking it would be a good surprise for them all.
As she had been speaking with Skye, she could hear the worry in the young girl's voice, however. She had been gone for a while now and she had grown use to her new lifestyle. And even if Dr Strange had cleared her for agent work again, they still thought some more time to rest up would be needed. But she knows that Skye would fall right back into the normal life she used to have, at least she would try and find her way back as much as possible.
Ending the call, she looks towards the clock on her wall. Trying to figure out what would be the best move, drive over there to pick up Skye herself or ask Maria to drop Skye off here. Taking a deep breath, she starts to call Maria. She would have gladly gone there herself, but if she did, there would be to many questions as to why she's leaving without telling them once more. She and Fitz have done that far to often already.
"What?"
Rolling her eyes at the greeting she receives from Maria, hearing that there is still some level of sleep in her voice, Melinda starts to wounder when on earth this group thinks a good morning starts.
"I need you to do something for me."
Since Maria would be acting like that, Melinda didn't see any need to be nice back and jumps directly into the problem at her hands.
"What is it this time? Any more agents from your side I need to take in?"
Melinda rolls her eyes once more, forgetting just how Maria is not a morning person. Her level of sass and sarcasm isn't the same as when she's completely awake.
"No, but I need to you drive the one you already have their back."
A silent fell over the line and Melinda can almost see how Maria starts to wake up by this.
"Wait, what? I thought you agreed that it would be for her best to stay a bit longer until we are really sure she's alright."
"Things have taken a turn to the worse, we need all hands-on deck. I would have come there and pick her up myself, but I can't leave at the moment, so I need you to driver her here as soon as she's ready."
Hearing how Maria starts to move about on the other end of the line, she knows that the other woman is already getting ready for what will happen on that end.
"I take it you won't tell me what is going on over there?"
"No, and it's still up to Skye to decide if she wants to tell Coulson about everything."
"He still doesn't know?"
"No, we all agreed that it's up to her. I will contact you once he knows."
"Sounds like a good plan. And I should start preparing the team on this side that Skye will be leaving."
"Good luck with that."
A grunt was the only respond she got from Maria before she ends the call. She can't help but to smile slightly at the respond she had been given. Remembering the conversation, she had had with Maria not that long ago, she can only imagine how it all would be going down right now. She couldn't be thinking about that right now, she has made the calls and the only thing she could do now is to wait for Skye to return home.
A few hours later, she finds herself in the common room with the rest of the team. Maria isn't the only one to slow on getting out of bed, the team on the base are just as bad. Which always leads to a late breakfast. And it turned out both Hunter and Bobbi have woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, or rather, the two of them waking up in the same bed once more.
They have been trying to sneak round that they are somewhat together again, they are however awfully bad at that. By now, Skye would be the only one who doesn't know, that is if Fitz haven't told her when they have been talking to one another. Standing to the side with Coulson, she let her eye travel over the kids, because that's what they all are, especially when they are all acting like this.
Hunter and Bobbi standing face to face, arguing over something, she had stop listening to them a long time ago. FitzSimmons, Trip and Mack standing around them, laughing at the silliness and from the corner of her eye she can see Coulson smiling. She knows she's smiling herself too, even if she has been trying not to. Hearing footsteps however, she turns her head to the side, eyes landing on Skye.
She had done a double take, seeing the new Skye. Lifting one eyebrow, she sees Skye shake her head. Taking in the new hair style, she recognizes the handywork that is Natasha Romanoff. And she's not even surprised over it, they have been playing the part that Skye have been away on a special mission after all.
"I see some things haven't changed."
At her voice, the argument comes to a complete stop, all attention being turned towards Skye. She smiles big as she sees Fitz, throws himself across the room, hugging his sister for dear life. Seeing the rest of the team walk over to her, Simmons and Trip hug their friend tightly, Melinda could finally start to relax.
