"They left?" Hoseok asked.
He looked all around him and checked. Yes, the car was gone. The other members had left him at the gas station and drove off.
"Really? They left?"
Hoseok gripped the money that he was holding tighter. Damn. This was a first. He wasn't really mad, but he was annoyed. He had been planning on getting back into the car quickly, but that wasn't possible.
Well.
Hoseok took out his phone. He quickly dialed Jimin's number. As he pressed the phone to his ear, he decided to head over to the front of the station to wait.
It took a moment to connect and then Jimin's loud laughter was audible.
"Hey, why did you leave me here?" Hoseok asked.
Jimin kept laughing. Hoseok could tell that he was trying to say something, but was unable to stop laughing.
"Why did you leave me here?"
"Is he mad?" someone else asked.
"Yeah," Jimin said. "He's mad."
"Come quickly or else I-"
Jimin took a deep breath, willing himself to calm down. "We're coming, we're coming, don't worry." He stifled a giggle at the end.
"We're coming, we're coming!" Jungkook was probably yelling from the front of the car. Hoseok rolled his eyes.
He cut the call.
"Which way are they going to come from?" he asked the camera operator.
"I don't really know. But they're going to come down that street, so you can go wait there if you want to."
Hoseok nodded. The camera operator was pointing at the sidewalk on the other side of the street. He would need to cross the road if he wanted to go there.
"Do you want to go there?"
"I want to get into the car quickly," Hoseok said. They shared a smile.
"I'll join you a moment later, head on over."
"Okay."
Hoseok shoved the money into his pocket. The last thing he needed was to lose some of it. He kept his phone in his hands, just in case the members called again. Then he headed towards the street.
The camera operator, as they had said, stayed within the gas station limits. Hoseok didn't bother looking back.
There weren't any lights or crossing signals in the street. Hoseok checked both sides before walking out. There were a few cars coming, but he figured that he would be across the street by the time they got close. It was a gamble. Hoseok had to half-run and half-walk to make sure that he wasn't going to get hit.
In his hurry, his phone fell out of his hands right when he was in the last lane of the street. Hoseok scrambled to grab it. He crouched down, trying to pick it up and keep crossing the street. His fingers scrabbled at the edges of his phone case, almost uselessly. He should not have cut his nails so recently.
He didn't see the car turning into the lane. But he did hear it. And he definitely did feel it.
There was a loud screeching of tires and then Hoseok was thrown a few yards out into the street. His back was hurting, but otherwise, he didn't feel like he was badly hurt. Hoseok's ears decided this was the time to start ringing. Hoseok initially wasn't aware of anything that had just happened. He was in shock for a few moments, but then the fear set in. There were more cars heading his way.
