febuwhump day 4
warning: mentions of abuse, drunk driving
-------
"Hoseok, you-"
Hoseok swallowed, squirming in his seat. He knew that what he'd done was wrong. He should've never gotten behind the wheel of that car while being drunk. It had been a bad choice, yes, maybe even the worst thing he'd ever done.
The silver lining was that the only person who knew about it was his manager, Minho. The one that was standing in front of him right now, screaming.
Hoseok's face was pale.
"Do you have any idea what would happen to your group's reputation if word got out?"
Hoseok nodded.
"Why did you do this?"
"I don't know," he managed to mumble. "I wasn't thinking right."
"You could've killed somebody!"
Okay, but he hadn't. Hoseok shook his head. He was past making excuses for himself. He wasn't innocent.
"You're lucky you only lightly damaged my car, not anybody else's," Minho continued. "I won't get you into any trouble. But if it had been anyone else, you would be dead by now. As in, your reputation would be gone."
Yes.
Hoseok replayed the events in his mind. He'd been at some party. His friend had dragged him over there. He hadn't been told there was going to be alcohol. Not considering himself a drinker, he had figured that he would stop after a few glasses. But he just kept going and going until he wasn't really aware of his surroundings anymore.
He just wanted to have a good time. Forget all the horror that always happened at work. The memories that were always associated with certain rooms and certain people in this building. Such as this room. Such as with Minho.
With all the publicity surrounding him all the time, it was hard to go anywhere at any time. So, at that underground bar, with people he knew he could trust, he finally felt free. Or so he thought.
When the party finally ended at nearly three in the morning, Hoseok was offered a taxi to go back home. He didn't even remember refusing. All he knew was that he tumbled into his car after a small fight, keyed up the engine, and turned out of the parking lot.
Somehow, he knew it was a bad idea since that very moment. His eyes were slipping closed, and the road was blurry in front of him. The lights were drilling into his fuzzy mind. But to his alcohol-infused thinking, it didn't seem like anything was real.
That is, until he rounded the bend onto his street. The car in front of him seemed to materialize out of thin air. Hoseok slammed into the steering wheel as his car hit the side of the other one. Thankfully, his speed was low. Thankfully, nobody was killed.
And thank the heavens that the other driver turned out to be Minho. The one manager that he'd always been wary of but who was now aware of the secret that could end his career.
Other than a few bruises, Hoseok was fine. He woke up with a terrible hangover the next day - and the regret of a lifetime.
Which was why he found himself here, in Minho's office, trying to reason his way out of his mistake.
He kept referring to it as a mistake, but it really wasn't. It had been a conscious decision to do what he did. Maybe he wasn't intending to hurt anybody. But he could've.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"You should be."
Hoseok nodded again. It was all he could do.
