Roman searched around for about a week and began shivering from the cold night, it was almost fall. He got to an island to see if the warmth was trapped in the sand so he can bury himself in it but it was cold.
He sighed and rolled over feeling something beside him. He looked and still couldn't see much. He felt the object noticing it felt like flesh
Roman sat up and rolled the fleshy object looking closely. It was another deep sea mer, "Olivia? Olivia is that you?" He tried to wake her up but no response.
He picked her up to take her to the hospital but was tugged back with something. He looked around to see what was holding them and noticed Olivia was tied up in fishing line.
He carefully held her while grabbing the crate so it'll be easier to get her to the hospital. He was getting really tired and saw a boat with a light shining on them.
"I found him!" Someone said on the boat as it stopped with two people coming down on a ramp to see them.
Roman looked at them blocking his vision from the light, "Thomas? Logan?"
Logan looked at him, "Hey, sorry for the light, we wanted to get you before the storm hit."
Roman swam up to put Olivia on the boat, "That's fine, I found Olivia anyway. I couldn't see much but she's tangled in a fishing line."
Thomas shined a light on her seeing the fishing line was so tight it cut into her skin. A few pieces of the crate was stabbed through her tail, she fell out but left her tail cut open and turn.
Logan looked at Thomas, "We need to get back, and quickly." He picked Olivia up to put her into a tub of water keeping her head above it.
Roman pulled himself onto the boat really tired while Thomas rushed to get them back home.
Once they were at the hospital, Thomas and Logan quickly took Olivia to the medical room to try and help her. Her tail was infected from the crate and sunburn. She's been out on the beach for about two weeks, possibly trying to find Virgil. Olivia had a deep cuts from the line and most were also infected.
Roman swam to his pod hoping he'd see Virgil on his way there. He didn't see him in his way, "He might be asleep." He got into his pod and quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, Roman got up to see how Olivia was doing so he could call Virgil in to see her. "How is she?" Roman looked at Logan.
Logan looked at him, "Not so good, her wounds were really infected and..." He motioned to her bandaged tail, "We couldn't save the tail."
Roman looked at the tail then at Logan, "Virgil isn't gonna be happy about this."
Logan nodded, "We're doing everything we can. If she can fight the infections then we're good. We just need to be patient."
Roman nodded, "You're right. How am I gonna tell Virgil without hurting him?"
Logan shrugged, "To be honest, he'll be hurt either way, if we can it as a secret he'll be angry say us for not telling him. If we tell him now, he'll be more worried about her."
Roman nodded, "I'm gonna go tell him. You should get some sleep."
Logan nodded, "Yeah, I'll ask Thomas to watch over her."
Roman nodded, "I'll be back." He left the pod to look for Virgil. He soon found him in his pod curled up. Roman look a deep breath before swimming in, "Hey Virgil, did you miss me?"
Virgil jumped a bit at the voice popping up save quickly turned around to see Roman. He teared up and rushed over to hug him tightly, "Roman! You're okay!"
Roman hugged him happily, "Yes, I'm home, finally." He rubbed his back, "How are you feeling?"
Virgil let him go slightly, "I'm feeling okay, a bit hard to swim with the rip that's still healing but I'm okay." He shook his head, "Anyway, did you find her? It's she okay?"
Roman took a deep breath, "I did find her... But she's not in good shape as I hoped..."
Virgil's eyes widened, "What!? What happened to her!? Will she be okay!? Where is she!?"
Roman held him close, "Easy, easy, it's gonna be okay. I can take you to her but you're gonna have to prepare yourself okay? She was badly injured when I found her."
Virgil listen and covered his mouth as he began to cry.
Roman rubbed Virgil's back, "Ssshhh, it's okay, it's gonna be okay." He did his best to comfort him.
Virgil sniffled a bit, "I have to see her."
Roman looked at him, "Are you sure?"
Virgil nodded, "Please Roman. I have to see her."
Roman sighed and nodded, "Okay, as you wish." He took him out of the pod and took him to Olivia.
Virgil looked at Olivia and teared up more seeing her look like Frankenstein and her tail gone. He carefully hugged her, and ran his fingers through her hair, "It's gonna be okay Olivia... Wake up soon little sis..."
Roman went over to put a hand on his back, "We'll do everything we can to help her. Just need to be patient."
Virgil carefully set her down then hugged Roman crying, "This is all my fault..."
Roman held him close, "No no no, this is not your fault."
Virgil shook his head, "It is my fault, if I didn't investigate and rush home to see her, she wouldn't be in this situation! She's fighting for her life because of me!"
Roman let go sightly to cover his mouth, "Virgil! Enough. This isn't your fault. She's here now and safe, just call down for me okay?"
Virgil looked into his eyes as tears continued to run down his face.
Roman moved his hand away to hug him, "It's gonna be okay."
Virgil hugged Roman tightly still crying but didn't say anything. He felt something new and strange while they hugged. He felt safe and protected, he didn't know why. He didn't even know what the feeling was. He let it go thinking he needed to focus on Olivia right now.
