Janus was a bit hesitant when he swam down with Roman seeing it was really dark. He stayed close to Roman looking around cautiously.
Roman noticed Janus was off and put a hand on his shoulder, "Janus? Are you alright? You seem more anxious that normal. I'd expect this from Virgil but not you."
Janus looked at him and swan forward, "Nothing, I'm fine."
Roman followed him knowing he wasn't. It was getting darker and Roman activated a glow stick so they could see. He gave one to Janus as well.
When Janus broke kiss setting it, he light shined onto a pair white shark that was blind. Janus yelled in fear and dropped the glow stick.
Roman looked at Janus and quickly grabbed his hand pulling him behind him, "Janus are you okay!?" The shark had swam away, the scream was messing with his senses.
Janus held onto Roman fire a bit then quickly let go, "I-i'm fine."
Roman looked at him, "Janus, tell me the truth, are you okay!?"
Janus swam further down, "I said I'm fine!"
Roman grabbed his wrist to pull him out of the way of a incoming shark with his mouth wide open.
Janus gasped looking into it's eye and swam away quickly breaking free out of Roman's grip.
Another shark came and Roman quickly swan to the other side of the trench losing Janus, "Damn it, where did you go?" He looked around a bit frantically. He soon saw his tail go into a tunnel on the other side of the trench.
Janus rushed into the tunnel and curled up looking through the entrance seeing more and more sharks. He hugged his trail tearing up, "I'm sorry Patton... I... I can't do this..."
Roman rushed in making a large bang on the wall and saw Janus jump up with tears. Roman panted a bit as he looked outside the tunnel, "There's so many." He looked at Janus noticing the tears. He went over to put a hand on his arm, "Janus. You have to tell me what's wrong. I know you're scared but I didn't think you'd be this scared."
Janus looked down, "Okay, you got me, I hate the big ocean. There's all of these creatures that are on top of my species. I..."
Roman sat down next to him, "You can tell me. Please, tell me what it was like for you before you got to the hospital."
Janus sniffled looking down and wiped his face, "Okay..." Janus took a deep breath as he told him his past.
Janus wasn't always afraid of the ocean, he wanted to explore it a lot. Every inch, every crack, every particle. But one day him and his friend strayed to far, his friend convinced him they should take a look at the kraken. That way they could be real tough mermen, Janus agreed and they went into a krakens trench, accidently waking the beast up.
The kraken had followed them home killing almost everyone of their family. Once the kraken left, his friend immediately blushed it on Janus, "He was the one who told me we should do it! He killed our family! And almost killed me in the process!"
Janus shook his head, "No! That's not true! You said we sh-" The council stopped him from speaking, "Janus Eversnake. We hear my chain you up for your crimes and be eaten by the sharks."
Janus cried trying to get away but they immediately chained him up putting dead fish allover him.
Janus's hands were chained behind his back so he could defend himself. The sharks but onto him every once in a while leaving open wound and scratches.
Ten years went on like that while the sharks started very close to him like they were saving him to be eaten by something much bigger.
There was a great white coming and Janus felt a pair of hands on his skin with was not cut deeply, clams were on his tail, there was skin turn off half of his face and now infected.
Thomas quickly set him free and carried him to the surface to see Logan on his boat. They did their best to save him but his heart had stopped from the fear, and pain.
Logan started CPR to save his life, gladly it worked as they got him back. Logan drive them back home where they helped janus's with his infected and deep wounds.
Janus sighed, "You see? I learned a good life lesson that day. Lying is the only way to save your skin."
Roman looked down, "I'm sorry, if I knew I wouldn't have brought you into this. We're in it now so we can't stop. Stay close to the wall and they shouldn't get to us unless they was rocks scarring on their nose."
Janus took a deep breath and nodded, "Yeah... Okay, let's get this over with."
Roman smiled, "Just gotta make it down enough to find the kingdom." He swam up seeing the sharks leaving the trench because there wasn't any fish. He held Janus's hand as he swam down staying close to the wall.
Janus held onto him as they searched for the kingdom. Janus soon found it and they looked around. Janus covered his mouth seeing bones of dark sea mers. He knelt down to a baby, "I'm so sorry this happened to you."
Roman continued to look around, "Olivia? Are you here?" He didn't hear any sign of life here as he continued to search, "Olivia I know your brother. His name is Virgil, he asked me to come and get you." He stayed in silent for a bit not hearing a soul.
Janus looked at Roman and swam over to him, "Roman... She might be gone..."
Roman shook his head, "No, I have to find her for Virgil." He continued to look through everything.
Janus put a hand on his shoulder, "Roman, there is nothing here except for bones and artifacts from shipwrecks. We should go, we can look around of the beach to see if she tried to go out and find Virgil."
Roman sighed and nodded, "You're right, we can't give up." He swam up with Janus to the surface near the boat, it was almost dark but Roman didn't want to stop, "You both should go head home. I'm gonna stay out to search for Olivia."
Thomas looked at him, "But Roman, it's too dangerous for you at night, you don't know if there is any danger here."
Roman nodded, "But I do know Olivia has to be around here somewhere. She couldn't just disappear."
Thomas sighed, "Alright, but if you need anything." He tossed him a water proof walkie talkie, "Call us."
Roman nodded holding onto it, "Thank you Thomas. I'll see you soon."
Thomas nodded and left to take Janus home.
Roman watched them leave then went to search around. He found the island and tried to find anything that could be a figure on the beach. He could barely see since it was getting dark. He wasn't gonna let that stop him anyway.
