You can't leave me behind

As if Newt's leaving without me.
He really expects me to wait here for him.
No shucking way!
I'm going with them no matter what Newt says. Sure he'll probably be pissed, but he can't make me come back can he?

So that night I lay awake, staring at the top of the tent. I could feel Newt's breath on my neck. He was obviously asleep. I tried not to toss and turn, since he was holding onto me. But I had a plan. After Newt told me about Thomas' plan, I decided to tell Brenda as well. She told me they'd never survive a day alone so she and Jorge would come too.

Hours passed and I only got little sleep. I was finally drifting off when I felt Newt's arms move from around me. I closed my eyes to try and convince him that I was asleep. The bed shifted a little and I could tell he had gotten off of it. I could hear him moving around the tent, probably changing his clothes and grabbing his stuff. Once I assumed he was done, I felt the bed move again, then soft lips were pressed on my forehead.

"If I don't make it back I'm sorry love," Newt whispered. He most likely assumed I was still asleep, but he still wanted to let me know, which I found adorable, but also depressing because Newt was walking into the battlefield unsure if he would return. I couldn't let him do that.

Eventually though, I heard him leave our tent. Once I knew he was gone, I shot up in the bed. I quickly pulled the covers off me and stood to gather my supplies. I changed quickly into some jeans and a gray long sleeved shirt. I threw on my jacket and grabbed my backpack which I packed last night when Newt was at the showers. When I was finished, I settled out to find Brenda. On my way I ran into her, already packed.

"You ready?" Brenda questions.

"Yeah," I nod.

"We just heard them leave," Brenda informs me. "Jorges already in the truck."

"Perfect," I whisper. "Let's go then."

Newt's POV:

I felt sad leaving YN. I knew she wanted to come and help. She always did. That's what I loved about her, YN always put her friends first. But I couldn't let her come. It was too dangerous. There was a good chance we wouldn't make it back, and I couldn't risk losing YN. She deserves to be happy. I just want her safe and to make sure there's a bright future for her. Of course I want to be part of that future, but there was no guarantee I would make it back.

I sighed, rubbing my eyes in the back seat of the car. Tommy looks back at me.

"Aren't you the one who didn't want YN to come?" Tommy jokes.

"Yeah, it's for her own safety." I answer.

"Then why do you look so depressed?" Fry laughs, looking at me from the rear view mirror. "You should've just let her come if you're gonna be like this."

"Slim it you bloody shanks," I cross my arms. "She could get hurt or worse. I can't risk that."

Thomas nods, turning back to the front.

After a few hours of driving we come to a tunnel. We step out of the car to take a look. We look to try and  find a way around because it looks like it'd be invested with cranks, but there is none. So the only option we have is through it.

"Alright but I get shot gun." I say turning back to the car.

Frypan drives through the tunnel until we spot our first crank. I roll up my window as we slowly try to drive around it. All of a sudden, more and more cranks emerge from the darkness. Fry floors it as an attempt to get away. To our surprise, the jeep falls to the side. At this point we're all full on panicking. Thomas, Frypan, and I stumble out of the car. I reach for my gun and realize it's gone.

"Shit!!!" I mumble.

"Hurry Fry!" Thomas calls. Frypan remains in the car, attempting to grab something.

The cranks only get closer and closer until Frypan grabs a gun and starts shooting at the cranks. At the exact same time, another car appears into the scene.

"GET IN!" Brenda yells from the passenger seat.

We do as she says, but when I open the back door, I see no other than YN.

"WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE?" I ask.

YN's POV:

Told you he's be pissed. I lean halfway out of the window, shooting at the cranks in attempt to buy us some time.

"Good to see you too," I call back to my friends.

Jorge does a quick turn to head back from the direction we came from. Along the way I keep lookout for cranks. I seem to miss one as it lunges at me. It grabs a hold of my arm and I slam it against the truck to get it off.

"YN get your ass back in the bloody car!" Newt grabs my waist and pulls me back in.

I try to catch my breath as I lower the gun. It's a little crowded having four people in the back seats and it reminds me of when Jorge was taking us to the Right Arm with Bertha. Damn, I think, it's already been six months?

"What are you guys doing here?" Thomas questions. Brenda turns to face him. She shakes her head at him.

"What he means is thanks for saving our asses," Frypan smiles at Brenda. She returns the gesture and sits herself.

"I'm impressed," Jorge smiles. "You almost lasted a whole day."

"If it weren't for YN here," Brenda speaks, "you would all be dead." I smile.

"Love I told you not to come," Newt whispers to me, slightly annoyed.

"I need to help," I answer, "I can't sit back and wait for you guys to do all the work. It's not fair to you."

"It's dangerous, love," Newt frowns slightly. "Something could happen to you."

"Don't worry about me," I peck his cheek. "I'll be okay." I rest my head in Newt's shoulder.

Newt sighs. "Fine. It's not like I can make you walk the whole way back."

I chuckle. "Good that."
