My mind runs rapid as i feel the stares of the students fall upon me. It was nerve wracking but enticing none the less, i was the one girl that Lizzie Saltzman brought to the dance, if that wasn't a flex i don't know what is.
I feel Lizzie's grip tighten as we reach the bottom few steps, probably signalling she was just as nervous.
All the students part as we reach the floor, Lizzie's face turned to see mine.
"What do you want to do first Marshall?" Lizzie voices.
"Its up to you Saltzman" I respond back, a certain confusion, this was my first dance... what were normal people supposed to do at dances?
"I'll go grab drinks, I'm too sober for this" Lizzie smiles before she heads off towards the drink station.
Taking in the complete essense of the hall, A stage for live bands, A balcony dashed in red, tables dotted around containing nothing but bags.
The students had now completely forgotton my existance as they became occupied by the music.
My mind flickered to Josie... she must have felt so shit after seeing her sister come back and bring the girl she'd just slept with.
I'm broken out of this thought as a girls voice interrupts me.
"Lizzie Saltzman ay?" now clicking as Jade's voice.
"We're just friends" I reply harshly, i knew Jade had a thing for her.
"Are you sure she just knows that? You might not see it because you're new... but you've changed her, You saw what she was like before, in my opinion she was 10x that before you arrived... partying every night, new girl in her bed, Football being Lizzie's sport-" Jade speaks, i cut her off as i become more impatient.
"Listen i don't know what you're trying to d-" I try say.
"No no, you've got me all wrong... i'm not like Penelope. I just want to say thank you, You two seem to get eachother, please don't lead her on though she doesn't deserve that" Jade's voice cracks.
I was suprised, Maybe Jade wasn't too bad after all.
Just as i go to speak, another voice... this time extremely familiar to me, joins the conversation.
"Hey Hope, i didn't know what you wanted so i got the one that i lik-" Lizzie cuts herself off as she sets eyes on Jade.
"Oh didn't see you there Jade, did you want a drink also?" Lizzie adds, As she hands me a glass filled with vodka and coke.
"I'll get one myself, just checking in on new girl" Jade whisps as she walks towards the drinks.
Jade obviously still had a thing for Lizzie so i really appreciated her talking to me.
"What was that all about" Lizzie asks.
"Oh nothing don't worry" I joke.
"Oh my god this is my favourite song" Lizzie squeels as she practically throws our glasses on the table as i'm dragged into the middle of the dance floor.
I instantly recognised the song, One that we had actually listened to ages ago together.
'Yoko ono'
We're surrounded by people, almost back to back with strangers, But yet i was only looking in one direction and at one person, Lizzie.
There she was starting to bop her head to the beat, as i did the same.
Slowly syncing into a basic rythm, drawing closer and closer to eachother every single beat.
Our faces inches apart as Lizzie lips mimed the lyrics to the song.
Her normal sarcasm and wit was missing tonight, a more soft Lizzie has surfaced, more emotional... i liked both sides of her... they made her unique.
Nearing the end of the song i snapped back into reality where Lizzie was now closer than ever, hands now placed on each side of my hips.
Just as the song played its final beat her lips met mine in a small yet sweet kiss. Unlike any other filled with Passion and lust this one felt completely different, almost like a first kiss initiating something.
"What was that for Saltzman" I joke, smile formed from ear to ear.
"I don't know Marshall, maybe i just felt like it" Lizzie's sarcasm hinted.
I laughed almost forgetting all the strangers filling the room.
The night almost flew by entirely, as the clock struck 10.55 the final slow songs came on, Lizzie was exhausted just as i remember a promise i had made earlier, I promised Josie no matter what i'd give her a final dance.
"Hey Lizzie i promised someone a dance, i'll text you later alright?" I knew that either tonight or tomorrow i'd have to talk with Lizzie about Josie... I dreaded it. Yet Josie was my priority right now.
My eyes scouted around as i eventually lay my eyes on her, Dancing with Penelope... clearly upset.
I stride over there confidently as i see Penelope's eyes signal for me to fuck off.
"Hey Jo-" I am cut off.
"Hope leave me alone" Josie states.
"Jo, if i don't stand corrected i owe you a dance... Atleast let me explain" I add, reaching out my hand for her to grab.
"Fine" The girl hesitantly obliged.
She grabs my hand as i grab her waist, her hands falling onto my shoulders.
"Hope i don't care about you and Lizzie... its the fact you lied to me, had sex with me and everything after, and now i'm just meant to accept its done?" Josie's voice shudders.
Our bodies sway to the beat.
"I never said that, I really fucking hate myself for lying to you but back then i didn't even know what i was feeling myself, But i realise now... you deserve better than that" I respond back, my voice shuddered.
"Even after what happened with Lizzie sleeping with Penelope behind my back... you still went and did that? Am i really meant to just let Lizzie do that to me again... i don't want that" Josie says confidently.
"i don't know what to say Jo..."
"I'm not going to let my sister take the one thing that could be good... I like you Hope, you obviously feel some sort of way towards me also... But you also like Lizzie, I'm not going to back down Hope, Let Lizzie know that its game on... fair and square. Whoever you fall for first, is the lucky girl" Josie utters, her body radiating confidence.
"Josie no... Honestly i'm not worth that, i don't want you and Lizzie to fall out over me" I ask the girl.
"its not a request Hope, My sisters done this once already i won't let it happen again. If she wants to treat it like a game to get every girl in school, i guess i'll play it also" The brunette replies.
I don't know how i feel about this, i had it all figured out. Now this complicates things.
"Wish her luck for me" Josie whispers into my ear as she breaks the dance and storms out towards the exit.
I really now had to talk to Lizzie.
