TW! MINOR CHARACTER DEATH: This is the only chapter I'll talk about this event in-depth about. If not, I'll update this note :)

FLASHBACK- AGE SIXTEEN

"Oh, honey, thank you so much for treating us," your grandmother smiles sweetly.

"What did you do?" your grandfather asks skeptically, "You better not be failing school, Y/N!"

"W-What?! No way! I just wanted to thank you guys for everything by bringing you out for lunch is all," you look down at the table.

"Well it was delicious!" your grandmother beams, "Now are you ready to go home?"

"Mhm, I'll just leave cash for the waitress," you nod as you pull out your wallet.

Taking out some cash you've earned from your part-time job, you place it onto the table.

"Don't forget about the tip," your grandfather huffs, "want me to pay for it?"

"It's okay," you giggle, "I already took care of it, don't worry."

"Alright, then let's go," he says as he begins an attempt at standing up.

"No, no, don't worry about that. I'm going to get the car and park it out front so it's closer to you guys. I'll be right back!"

"Are you sure, sweetie?" your grandmother questions.

"I can damn well walk to the car without you bringing it here... but if you want to bring it closer I won't stop you," he pouts.

"Don't worry," you say as you kiss them both on the cheek, "I don't mind."

You wave goodbye as you head out the front door of the building, bell chiming from above as you do.

You begin to walk down the street briskly, not wanting to keep your grandparents waiting for too long.

"Ahh! Villains!" you begin to hear people scream from behind you.

Turning around, you buy into what you hear, only to have your soul leave your body. The building you just left from has been engulfed in flames, three villains standing on top seeming to be unaffected as they laugh at the chaos below.

Suddenly a hero grabs you by the waist and pulls you over their shoulder.

"Hey let go of me!" you yell as you try to squirm out of their grasp, "I need to get to my grandparents! I just left them in that café!"

The hero finally puts you down by a crowd of onlookers.

"You need to stay put," they tell you as they begin holding back the crowd of civilians from getting too close.

"What the hell!" you scream at them, "You need to go save the people inside, you idiot! Can't you leave a cop to this other crap?"

"I'm sorry," they shake their head, "but I need to prevent more people from getting hurt."

"And what about the people inside!" you continue to yell, "What about the ones who already need saving?! My grandparents are in there!"

"I need you to stay here!" the hero finally snaps at you, "I am protecting those that are out here from getting hurt, that is my job right now."

In your moment of pent up frustration and anger, you begin to concentrate as hard as you can on the hero before you. Quickly, you're able to throw him against the wall with your quirk.

"Did you see that?" you begin to hear people gasp and whisper behind you, "Is that another villain?"

"You incompetent piece of shit!" you yell at the hero, ignoring the crowd, before running towards the building.

You make your way through the inside of the building, moving whatever you can out of your way to prevent the flames from hitting you.

"Grandma!" you call out as you begin searching.

With the combination of the smoke and the realization of the severity of the situation, you begin to tear up.

"Grandpa!" you cry out.

However, there's no response and with the building crumbling around you, it's hard to see much. Eventually, you see the arm and head of another older woman as she looks towards you.

Instantly you use your quirk to move some furniture and crumbling ceiling out of your way to reach her. You then grab onto her and pull her out of the building.

"It's okay, ma'am, just breathe. We're out now," you tell her as you embark on your new mission, heading back to that shitty hero.

"Hey, you!" you call out to them, "Apparently I'm better at your job than you are and I'm not getting paid for this shit!"

You sit the older woman down as medical personnel run over to the two of you. You then stalk up to the hero, grabbing them by the collar, and looking them dead in the eyes.

"My grandparents and everyone else that was in that building is dead! And you know what? It's not the villains' fault, nor is it the victims'. It's yours, you incompetent piece of shit, you killed them all! You're responsible!"

From that day on, you always hated heroes. You blamed them, not the villains, for not saving your grandparents that day seeing as you felt as though they could pick and choose who they wanted to save, often taking the easy road for convenience-sake.

Later on that day, you sat with the older woman in the hospital. She had told you she should have family coming to see her, but nobody showed up for awhile.

"Nan!" a girl with long, navy hair, who seems to be around the same age as you, bursts into the room.

You watch as she runs straight past you and hugs the old woman, probably tighter than she should seeing as the woman was having an extremely hard time breathing.

"Nan, I'm so sorry! I can't believe this happened to you..."

"Yoruko," the old woman says weakly, "I love you darling."

"I-I love you too Nan, but that's not going to be the..."

The girl's sentence fades out as the elderly woman smiles at you.

"Yoruko... that hero saved me, maybe you'd better take this as a lesson," she giggles.

Yoruko turns to you with a confused expression that eventually softens, "thank you," she mutters.

You nod as Yoruko turns back to the old woman.

"Goodbye, darling," the old woman whispers, "I'll see you again soon."

"Nan?! No, no, what are you- Don't close your eyes, what's wrong with you? Nan!"

The girl flops her body over the old woman and bursts out in tears. After giving her a moment to cry, you walk over and place you hand on the girl's back.

"I'm sorry I couldn't do more," you say quietly.

Yoruko stands up and hugs you tightly, almost knocking the breath out of your lungs.

"Thank you," she sobs into your shoulder, "for allowing me to say goodbye to my grandmother."

You wrap your arms around the girl, hugging her back. For the first time that day you, too, shed tears over the loss of loved ones.

"It was the heroes," you say as you clench your hands into fists, "their damn incompetence cost so many lives today."
