Peeta and Katniss

Chapter 19

(Katniss's pov)

I decide on making a simple stew made with freshly shot squirrel, mainly because I thought that it would pair nicely with the rolls. I finish eating my lunch before going to my fridge to see what ingredients I would need to buy. I see that I have an onion, but that I need to buy some carrots, potatoes, and celery, perhaps another onion as well. I then move to the cupboard to see if I the soup to go in it. I find it and set it on the counter, I then grab my wallet and keys. I know that it is warm outside, so I just open the front door, close it and lock it. I begin the walk into the town.

I get to the store, always being careful where I step. I don't want to twist an ankle. I walk up to the stand, the woman behind it greets my with a smile, "Hello Katniss! How are you today?"

I give a polite smile back, "I'm great, how are you."

"Wonderful, thank you for asking. What would you like today?"

"I would like some carrots, potatoes, celery, and one onion please."

"Of course," she replied as she gathered my vegetables. "That will be $16.94."

I take out my wallet and pull out a twenty. I give her the twenty and take the bag. She hands me my change, "Thank you!"

"Anytime Katniss!"

I give her one final smile. I then turn to walk away. It's weird walking into town and being greeted by name.

As I walk home I admire the scenery. There is tall prairie grass as far as I can see. In the distance I can see the beginning of the forest. I am approaching the fountain in the center of the Victors' Village. There are primroses planted in pots that sit next to every bench. They are a lovely pastel pink, Prim's favorite color. I peel my eyes away from the flowers and place them on the fountain. It is blue in color with fish that spit water out into a pool with fish designs in the bottom. I suppose in its own way it could be pretty, but I personally don't see it. I open my front door and go inside. I put the carrots and celery that I bought in the fridge. I set the potatoes on the counter. I go to the sink and wash my hands. I check the clock and see that it says it is 5:00. I assume that Peeta will be coming around 6:00. So I decide to go and take a quick shower before I begin making supper.

I walk downstairs. I smile as I turn on the radio. I like to listen to music when I cook, it makes it way more fun. I begin chopping up all of the vegetables. Before long I am combining all of the ingredients. I run upstairs to put on some deodorant and brush my teeth. Just as I finish I hear the doorbell ring, my heart jumps. I go running downstairs to answer it. I open the door, "Hey Katniss."

"Hey Peeta," I step aside so he can come in.
