Chib’s Point of View
“Do you mind if I talk to Nora alone for a bit, Maddie?” I asked her as we made our way back into the main area of the clubhouse.
“No, not at all,” Maddie replied with a smile, “I’m going to play with the kids outside.”
Once she left, I walked towards the chapel and opened the door for Nora. She stopped and looked up at me, confusion in her eyes.
“I can’t go in there,” she stated, “I don’t have a patch…”
While there had always been certain rules that Nora was willing to break, there were also other rules that she had never broken. Or at least that was what she wanted everyone to think.
“Please Nora,” I replied as I rolled my eyes, “I’m the President, I can do whatever I want and I want to talk in here…besides, you can’t tell me that you and Jackie Boy haven’t done certain things on this table when no one was around…”
Nora’s face went beet red and she choked on the gum she was chewing.
“Jesus, Chibs,” Nora muttered as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, “How the hell did you know that?”
“It was late, a couple months before he died,” I answered, “I came back to talk to him about something and he was…well, preoccupied. I decided barging in on the two of you would be in bad taste, so I waited until the next day.”
“That was kind of you,” Nora replied with a laugh, “I totally forgot about that night…”
Nora walked into the chapel and looked around before turning back to me.
“Sit wherever you like, love,” I said quietly while resting a hand on her shoulder.
She walked around the table and sat down in the Vice President seat and I took my seat at the usual spot. She looked small as she slouched in the chair, looking visibly exhausted. I reached my hand out and she place her hand in mine, but she didn’t say a word. Nora wasn’t typically a quiet person, but I could only assume that things had changed over the years. She seemed much more grown up, but with less help since she left, the tiredness was obvious. Nora sighed heavily as she ran a hand through her hair and a single tear trickled down her cheek. She looked over at me before she quickly wiped it away.
“What was that about outside, with Tig?” Nora asked quietly after a moment, “It felt extremely judgmental, Chibs…”
“It was wrong, Nora, I’m sorry,” I replied, “But the lowdown is…you have done everything you could for the last five years to stay away from the club life and now you’re living in Santo Padre. I wasn’t trying to be judgmental, it was just a curious glance between me and Tig.”
