Chapter 7

At some point Brett fell asleep, but he woke up every now and then in the night. They didn't hear a thing, except the waves. No cries, no shouts, nothing. It was blissfully silent. Brett almost couldn't believe it. The last night they were accompanied by hordes' cries every since they left the farm and to have a completely silent night was like a dream. He kept his place on Eddy's chest though. He was sure they could have washed up while the sun was setting, but they didn't know for sure it was safe. And it was always better safe than sorry. Brett turned his head and watched Eddy when the sky slowly began to lighten.

He moved from the chest to the shoulder and sighed.

"Can you believe that? Because I honestly can't," he whispered.

"I can't either, but I love it," Eddy giggled as quietly as possible with his response.

Brett nodded and leaned back into the pillow this time. The sun was crawling out so it was time to sleep for him. He still searched for Eddy's hand and squeezed it. It was seemingly clear that they were really and honestly safe here. Now only the people could be a problem, but somehow Brett doubted it. If they were like Jordan, they would have a good and happy future ahead of him. If someone told him a year ago that this would happen, he would never have believed it. But now it was reality. A safe home. A safe island. All for them. Even people on it who could help them. Eddy could even find love. It was almost too good to be true.

Eddy interlaced their fingers, and squeezed lightly. Closeness was simply something they craved and something they practiced with one another. It wasn't uncomfortable or unnatural, it was just normal for them. And that was okay.

Brett fell asleep with a rare soft smile on his lips and was truly calm, finally. He could leisurely wait for the food to arrive and seeing that they are not supposed to leave the house, they had a safe shelter for the next night as well. And all the other nights they would spend here.

So he could afford to be a tiny bit lazy and just heal up.

Eddy kissed Brett's forehead before he tried to fall asleep himself. Brett was at peace so Eddy could be at peace too. It didn't take long and soon enough he was snoring.

Brett stirred for a moment when he heard knocking on the door and he whispered "Food is here", but then he fell asleep again. He didn't even know if Eddy got breakfast or not.

He certainly woke up in pain because he skipped the meds and now he was kinda hurt. He looked around and groaned.

Eddy had Brett's breakfast on the nightstand along with his pills out, but Eddy himself was not in bed or in the room. However, the bathroom door was wide open and lights appeared to be on.

Brett was not dumb, but he took a second longer than usual to connect the dots. Also it was bright and sunny in the house, so he didn't see the light very well. He took the pills after locating them and washed them down with some food and water. He settled back when Eddy emerged from the bathroom, looking like an actual decent human being. The older snickered.

"Man, you look good! Like you have been in civilization! And here I am, still homeless and dirty."

"Yeah, I shaved and trimmed then washed on up. Want me to get you out of bed to do the same for you?" Now all Eddy needed was some clean clothes and to clean the sheets. He felt fresh overall. It was quite nice not to be layered in grime.

"Yes, please. Man, I can't wait to feel like a human again." Brett snickered but held up a hand, "Just gimme half an hour or so for the pills to kick in. Then I can go with you. Have you had breakfast already? There is still plenty left."
