Volcanic

Being a geologist was Brett's dream since he was a tiny little boy. He wanted to dig up stuff, look at stones and, who was he kidding? He hated his job. When he said he wanted to be a musician his parents took away his violin and forced him to become a doctor. Well, they never specified it so he was petty and chose to be a Doctor of Philosophy in Geological Sciences just to spite them. It was interesting, sure, but not that much that he wanted to do it his whole life. He would roll in the dirt a bit and then just switch his career. After spitting his parents in the face that they couldn't brag about their 'Doctor Son' who was essentially just a doctor in name but not prestige. Well, that was his thought process until he realised that 'rolling in the dirt' was actually really fun and the things he could test, discover and up-earth things no one ever saw before.

Also before the comet hit the earth and distributed magic through humankind. Now being a Doctor of Dirt was so much more interesting.

He was currently on a volcano that was born thanks to the comet in the midst of the pacific ocean. Fairies, spirits and walking trees were around him, chatting him up, asking what he wanted to do here and such. He simply stated that he wanted to take a probe of the stone-y mass and be on his way. Thankfully all the spirits were kinda nice and left him alone after he explained what he wanted to do.

When he came to the location he thought was good, he bent down to take a probe. What he didn't expect was a tap on his shoulders that was kind of very hot. He cursed and whipped around to came face-to-face to a fiery looking dude. Brett gulped. He wasn't very confrontial so he tried to smile.

"He-hello?"

"Hi. What are you doing?!"

Unlike the other spirits, this one was a pretty mean one. His tone was harsh and cold and his eyes and hair were set ablaze.

"Uhm, just taking some probe to look at it later in the lab?"

Would the spirit kill for touching the comet? Probably not, right?

"I see," the spirit watched as Brett worked and followed him around the whole day it took the doctor to collect all the data and probes he needed. It was kind of comforting for Brett to be honest. They had a great conversation, even though they had a rocky start, and they liked each other's company. It was a bit strange for Brett to find so much in common with a fire spirit but he wasn't against it, quite the difference. The spirit - his name was Eddy - was funny and a bright conversationalist. He had a wicked humor and could also take a nab at himself. Brett never had so much fun working the whole day.

But now it was time to go. Brett cracked a smile and waved as his boat departed. The spirit had to stay back sadly. Brett smiled as he looked at his worksheet for tomorrow. He would go back and take more probes. One couldn't have enough, right?

He looked forward to it.

Unbeknownst to the doctor, a certain fire spirit looked out at the sea surrounding his world, his comet. He sighed. Hopefully the funny man who liked to poke in the dirt would come back soon.
