3 Dream
There is a difference between nightmares and a dream. A dream is something wonderful, heart-warming, nice, whereas a nightmare is horrible and one would really love to end it as soon as it started.
Some dreams transform into nightmares. Some not. Some dreams he could remember, some were gone as soon as he opened his eyes. But some would stay with him even when he was awake – and those were usually his nightmares.
His nightmares were kind of the same; being left alone, hurt, abandoned by family and friends but some were about body negativity, demons, horrible stuff being done to him and him watching as he was slowly ripped apart one by one, mentally and physically.
Obviously, he didn't like those. He liked his dreams though. And one was every so often recurring: him being on the couch – or any soft surface actually – in the arms of his best friend. Just cuddling and being happy. Nothing else happened; just this peaceful little scene. It was adorable and troubling at the same time. He didn't know what to do.
The warmth rose in his tummy every time he saw his best friend. And this was no platonic love he was feeling and it scared him. He didn't want to lose what they had now.
He was pretty sure his best friend only saw him as a brother at most. Friend? Sure. Best friend? Yes, of course. Brother? Ehhh, probably and mostly yes. But anything more than that? Doubtful.
His big brown eyes looked softly at his best friend (and never more than that. No, no, never), taking in his gentle smile, his warmth and his comfort to just drown in it.
Yes, he would never speak up about his feelings for his best friend, at least it would be awkward between them. But he could dream about them.
Them being together, them being close, them being even closer and in love and all that. His dreams knew no bounds.
So, they dreamed on, each of the other, not willing to break the friendship between them for something bigger, more delicate though. They stayed where they were; not wanting to confess in fear they would be rejected.
It was almost as if they had no idea the other felt the same.
So sadly, nothing moved forward, nothing moved at all. And so they remained the same, missing out on the greatness they could achieve and feel together.
All was just in their dreams.
