"Right," George said like what was just asked was nothing at all. "Fred put you up to this,"
"He told me Maisie doesn't have a date if that is what you mean," Lee didn't smile, didn't crack a joke. He didn't do anything to indicate that there was a punch line, yet George and I stood there, waiting nonetheless.
"Lee, this isn't funny," George said flatly. However, making sure not to give an emotion away, I felt an arm wrap around my waist. Pulling me a step closer to him
"It's not a joke," Lee shrugged in response. "I think I could have a lot of fun with Maisie, and no one else is asking,"
"I-" I spoke up, looking to George for a moment, who still seemed in shock by the whole thing. "Lee, I appreciate it... you are a lot of fun, but- no. I am sorry,"
George cupped my shoulder and pulled me close. "Why don't you go sit with Ange over there, Bags? I will bring you a cup of tea," He whispered into my hair.
"Are you sure-"
"Yeah, just got to catch up with Lee for a second," George slapped his friends should come with unusual enthusiasm. This was not going to be good. "It will be fine, Bagsy," George said. "Honest,"
I nodded and walked over to Ange, but something felt wrong. I looked back once and saw George and Lee glaring at each other and Fred stepping in the middle.
"Maisie," Ange smiled. "It already started, did it?"
"Can you tell me what it is?" I asked. "I didn't know Lee thought anything of me,"
Her features twitched in confusion slightly, and then Angelina rolled her eyes. "Of course, Fred didn't give you context; why would he?" Angelina looked up in the direction George was for a moment before turning to me. "Fred is trying to get his brother to be a little more honest. However, nothing is working- so he created some... plan," Angelina said. "I have no idea how this is supposed to work, but here we are,"
"Great," I nodded, pursing my lips. "Merlin, what did I agree to,"
"When I figure that out," Angelina said. "You will be the first one to know,"
We laughed a bit before I turned back to the crowd; George was walking through, wearing a darker look.
"What was that about," Ron said as he took a seat on the couch,"
"I would love to know as well," George sat next to me and handed me a mug. "Did... did you know he was going to do that?" He asked, wrapping an arm around my waist.
"No... I mean, I never even speak to Lee," I shook my head, and that was enough for George. He smiled a bit and pressed his leg into mine. As if to make sure I was there. "Lee is up to something strange... that is for sure."
I didn't like that; something about what George just said made me angry. "Why..." I pursed my lips. "Why is it strange that Lee asked me?"
George shifted; I could tell he felt guilty from the way his eyes softened., "Well- he and I- I mean, it's no surprise he would ask you. But just I- I just know- I mean,"
"Dear god, it runs in the family," Fred said as he took a seat next to Angelina.
"Where did Lee go?" I asked.
"Why so Curious," George asked, his features slightly deflated.
I shrugged. "I just think it's so weird for Lee to leave when he could be goofing around with you two,"
"That was the weird part of that interaction," George gave a look as if he was a part of a different reality.
"Oh, come on, George," Fred said. "Can you blame him?"
