"So your plan is to have me... take Cedric... to a surprise study session the night before the trial," Arya said, looking at George for a moment. "And hope he won't notice you aren't there,"

"If there were enough people, yes," I said.

Arya kept her focus on George. "Do you think you wouldn't?"

I glanced at George who perked slightly. "Wouldn't?"

"Notice Maisie was missing?" Arya asked. "In a room full of your friends,"

"Arya-" I knew a test when I saw one, I just didn't know what was being tested, only the who: George.

"You are right it won't work," George sighed, glancing at me for a moment then thinking about it some more. He looked at Arya with a guilty look, "We could get Ginny to cover for us,"

"Or you could tell him," Arya said. "Communicate and all that,"

I narrowed my eyes, "Write me the script for that conversation,"

Arya stared at me in silence but we both knew exactly what that script would look like.

{Hey Ced it's me, one of your dearest friends and the girl you have asked out multiple times but couldn't commit. Do you mind if I go into the forbidden (named because people die on entry) with nothing but a map, a fantastic bird with a god complex, and that guy you really fucking hate. I know it's last minute but don't worry it only feels that way because this is the first time you are hearing about it. See, I have been meeting with George for weeks! You know George? The guy I'm mad for! Is that cool? Splendid. Good luck tomorrow!}

Fair to say a few rewrites would not help.

"Fine," She said, understanding there was no way for me to start that conversation. "But not Ginny, tell him you are with Angie, he likes her more,"

"Why doesn't he like Ginny?" George said; there was a fight coming if I ever saw one.

"He likes her just fine, you on the other hand are less likely to be with Angie,"

To my surprise George wasn't insulted to hear this, if anything, his shoulders shifted with pride. "What about you?" Arya continued. "If you had an alibi it would make things easier,"

It was my turn to be proud. "George has something for that," I smiled slightly before looking back down at my notes.

GEORGE POV

Something about her shy smile made me buzz with warmth. Maisie was proud, and despite everything I could still pull that smile from her. Cedric was just a blip on the radar, all because of a smile. My eyes glanced over to the package and then back to her.

"Anyone want to share this plan?" Arya pressed. Breaking through our small moment, again.

"My brother and I have a mirror spell we use,"

"Oh- brilliant,"

"Cedric just can't try to talk to us," I said. "Then the spell is obvious,"

"Just have Fred walk past us then," Arya said. "He won't talk with you, just needs to see you... alone,"

"Right, first time Fred does not count," I muttered, thinking about the weight of those words. Other than Maisie, Cedric was the other person who thought of me as separate from my brother. That is a foundation of a lasting friendship, to say the least.

"You know what I mean,"

"He doesn't..." Maisie spoke up this time. "Cedric isn't worried about that," She glanced nervously in my direction. "He said so,"
