Almost everyone was out of my dorm room when I woke up, everyone but a redhead on the floor.
"Ginny?" I said, reaching for a robe. "Is that you?"
At the sound of her name, Ginny raised her head at me. She squinted in the sunlight before tucking her head back under the covers.
"How is that comfortable," I said, slipping the robe on and lifted my covers, "Take the bed,"
Ginny pushed herself up and walked to my bed. Her movements were zombie-like but agreeable.
"Do you want tea or to be left alone, darling?"
"Tea," Ginny groaned as she climbed under my covers.
I walked into the common room, only to find more zombies. It seemed everyone was just depleted from the parties as I was.
I received a glance or two but other than that, everyone was in their own world; whether it was holding someone's hand or just trying to keep their head upright, everyone was tired.
When I walked back into the room, Ginny seemed a bit more lucid.
"Hey friend," I said, slipping on the corner of my bed. "Fancy a cup,"
Ginny looked me up and down. "Thanks," She said, reaching for a cup, "When did you come in last night,"
"Late," I leaned into the mattress, taking a sip from my own cup. "I didn't even notice you by the fireplace,"
"I was pretty out of it by the time you got back anyway, so it worked out,"
I nodded as we both sat in silence for much longer than we needed. "So why are you here?" I finally asked.
Ginny rolled her eyes before looking down at her cup. "Harry told Ron he asked Cho to the Ball last night,"
My lips parted as I realized what this meant. "Ginny,"
"It's fine," She nodded; thats when I saw the puffiness all around her eyes. "I knew Harry wasn't going to ask me; after all, I am Ron's sister!" Ginny seemed to be trying her hardest not to cry. "I just... wasn't expecting her,"
It was at this moment I realized how lucky I was. This could have been me; George could have said that there was nothing between us other than being the sister of a friend. He could be going with someone beautiful to the ball. I could have been heartbroken but trying to seem acceptable. The pain was almost too close. Scarily so.
I nodded, reaching over to put my mug down. "This sucks," I said. "I wanted you to be up there, with Harry,"
"I was hoping you would go," Ginny said. "Anyone other than you and Hermionie, you already love him. With you guys, I could say it meant nothing, but with Cho," Her name came out with a sob. "She might see him like I see him," I could see the conflict on her face as plain as day. "And I know that's selfish... but I just wish I wouldn't have to watch that,"
Ginny's body began to shake, and I took her cup from her. It slid onto the nightside with a thud. I pulled Ginny into my arms. Letting her sob on my shoulder. "I just couldn't celebrate with them when I found out," she said after a while. "Act like it was the best night of my life when all I could see was her and him making eyes at each other,"
