As The World Caves In

ch. 18

As reality started to take its form inside their heads, Wanda and Raven returned back to the headquarters where Tony and the rest of the members waited for their return. They are all currently gathered inside the conference room as Tony began to speak with a heavy heart.

"You are all probably wondering why I called this meeting." Tony began as his breath hitched at the back of his throat. "It is believed that Tao's people attacked the Avengers Headquarters in NYC. It is with a heavy heart that as of right now there are 22 casualties and 36 injured."

The room fell into a silence. No one spoke a word, their hearts ached for the friends and families. They all exchanged looks, emotions shifting to something new.

"Tao is going to pay for all the lives he took." Bruce spoke angrily. "We're going to show him that he messed with the wrong people."

"What's the plan Stark? Are we going to retaliate?" Carol asked out of curiosity.

Tony sighed of exasperation, "as of right now, there's no definite plan simply because it just happened and we don't know where to even begin. I've checked through countless security cams and he and his people were nowhere to be found."

"How's that possible? One have had to at least pop up." Thor added.

"Well, that one person hasn't made itself known yet." Tony responded.

"Why would he attack New York if it's us he has an issue with?" Raven intercedes. "I mean, if I was him, I would attack straight here. It's not like we're hidden."

"Because he's a psychopath. He doesn't just want to get even, he wants to punish us first so he could have his fun before he throws us in the garbage like we're nothing." Tony answers. "He's like a venomous snake. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants."

"What does he want?" Carol asks.

"Us dead." Bruce interjects. "A guy like him is infuriated because we took almost all of his resources. He basically has little to none. If it wasn't for his underground labs, he would be done."

"I will get in contact with Coulson and his team to see how I could be of help for the families of the loved ones they lost. So, for now, let's be sharp and train hard. He could attack again." Tony uttered before leaving the room. Everyone went their separate ways, their heart still hurting for the lives that were lost.

Wanda couldn't bring to separate herself from Raven so she stayed in her room, cuddled up against each other. Of course the younger woman didn't mind simply because every chance she could get to have the privilege of having Wanda in her arms, she would take the chance no question asked.

The two lay in bed comfortably as they watch The Office on Netflix, Raven's favorite show. Every once in a while they would fall into laughter because of a scene that had popped up on the screen. In her head, it truly doesn't get better than this. Raven is a simple person and the fact that the love of her life is inside her arms as they watch her favorite show was more than enough for her.

"Dwight is definitely my favorite character." Wanda announced as she watched the screen. "He's an idiot, which makes him ten times funnier."

Raven laughed, agreeing with her, "me too."

They continued to watch the show until exhaustion took over. Raven turned off the television, carefully moving into a much more comfortable position hoping not to wake the sleeping woman. After laying down to her liking, she glanced at Wanda, relieved that she didn't wake her up with her constant movement. Sooner rather than later, sleep started to take its form inside her body.

Wanda tirelessly stirred herself into consciousness, the first thing her eyes settled upon was the sleeping form of Raven slightly above her. She felt a warm feeling in her chest like she always does, admiring her features. She carefully hovered her fingertip at Raven's temples, drawing imaginary lines as her eyes followed it. She never knew how Raven's jaw was so sharp and defined until now. It caused her heart palpitation, sweat starting to take its form.
