Gray and I were sitting quietly in the back of the cop car, doing school work. We had skipped school to go through with what we had planned yesterday, but we were still required to keep up on our work for the day. Okay, I wouldn't call it skipping since we were excused from classes by the school thanks to the police department. We had finished all of our work and were working on the project now, since we had saved it for last. Apparently it was supposed to take awhile to get to the location, so it was a way to pass the time.
"Alright, you've done the aquatic flora, correct?" I asked Gray.
"Yep. And we've got all of the information on all of the fauna except artic wolves and the polar bear. I couldn't find certain aspects of their diet and habitat, so I left it blank. We can't create the slideshow with one of the vital pieces of information missing. It would mess everything else up," Gray said.
"Alright, oh I found some info. First is the wolf. Okay, write this down as I say it alright?" I asked.
"Yep. I'm ready. Tell me what it says," Gray said, his fingers hovering over the keyboard ready to type.
"Due to the scarcity of grazing plants and resulting low density of prey species, artic wolves roam over larger areas, hunting for food," I said, reading off the page, "Need me to repeat?"
"Nope. I got it down. What website is it from?" He asked.
"Torontozoo.com. We'll need another citations page to put it down on," I said as I made the next slide on the presentation. Sometimes I just love google slides.
"Really? But don't we already have like, 2 cites pages?" Gray asked in surprise.
"You're the one who gave me so many links for each animal. Don't blame me," I shrugged.
"Damn, I never worked this hard on a high school project before. These kids must be in honors or something. Are we sure this is even their grade level?" One of the police officers said to the one who was driving.
"I know right? Just listening to them for the past half hour is enough to make a person feel dumb. They said this was biology? Bull. This stuff is advanced," the other replied.
"Well, we did kinda test into college level," I mumbled.
"What grade are you two even in, kid?" The officer asked.
"10th, sir," I answered respectfully.
"Alright that's it, now I'm interested. Mind letting us see the project when you're finished?" The other officer asked.
"No problem!" I said, happy for their compliments.
"I swear to God these kids are smarter than the chief himself," one of them mumbled.
"What the hell is flora and fauna again?" The other mumbled to himself.
Gray and I looked at each other and tried not to laugh. We continued our project. We finished filling in the missing information and started copying all of it onto the slides. Now we just need to make the models and the project with be finished.
"Okay, you're making the arctic diorama, right?" I asked for confirmation.
"Yep. Ice is my specialty. Your making the hydrosphere themed one, correct?" He asked as well. I hummed in response.
"Your specialty is ice, but mine is water. Remember, huskies would classify in the arctic model. They live in Alaska after all," I said.
"Right. We each include three living organisms in our models. I'm thinking about getting some cotton to act as the snow. What about you?" Gray asked.
"Um not sure yet. Maybe I'll paint some waves on the box?" I questioned.
"That's a good idea. Your art skills will come in handy. Don't forget to make the animal's models. And we'll have to search up pictures of their food to glue on," he agreed.
I wrote his suggestions down on the Google doc we used for notes. This would definitely come in handy later.
"Okay kids, we're here. Now you can finally stop making us feel dumb," The officer driving said. The two of us sweat dropped.
We were parked behind the building Jamie was supposed to be held in. The chief and the detective came over from their police car, as did other officers from theirs. We had driven with two other officers, who were in charge of protecting us while the others rescued Jamie and arrested anyone involved and found in the building.
"Alright you two. Now's your time to shine. We've discovered that Lyon has bought cameras and placed them around the area. I swear, him having money is so annoying," the chief grumbled that last part.
"We had someone in the tech department try and hack into the cameras, but they were only able to get a few pictures before the security system kicked them out again. We want you to analyze the pictures and tell us what you think we should expect to look out for," the detective said.
Gray and I took the pictures from them and studied them briefly. They were blurry so we couldn't really see anything.
"Do you have a laptop we could borrow?" Gray asked.
They looked surprised that we'd ask that but fulfilled the request, as long as we promised not to go into any unnecessary files. It was federal protection, so of course they would ask that. Some things were just too confidential. Especially for teenagers to look through.
Gray got logged in and typed a few things. Next thing I know, there's a space that requires a password. I'm not as good at tech, so I don't even know how he got there so fast.
"Juvia, any password ideas?" He asked.
"Yeah, a few. Let me try," I said.
He nodded and handed me the laptop. After a few tries, I was successful and handed it back to him. It was double password locked, so it took a few more minutes than expected. He typed a few more things and then suddenly we were looking at live security camera footage.
"Okay, these kids IQs have to be seriously high. First the project and now this. How in the world have they not passed school early yet?" One of the officers we rode with said. The other officer agreed.
Gray flipped through each camera. We looked through about 4 before I told him to stop. I pointed to a certain spot.
"There," We both said.
