Gray came to my door right before I left for school. I had opened it to leave and I saw him leaning against the house waiting for me.
"Gray-S- . . . Gray? What are you doing here?" I asked.
"Walking you to school," he said simply.
"Absolutely not," I said as I stepped out.
"Juvia I need to protect you from him," he argued.
"And I need to protect Jamie from him," I said back and started walking. He caught up with me.
"You can pretend I insisted, which I basically did so it's not lying," he said, not giving up.
"Fine! But it's your fault if I have to go through another punishment," I said, shaking at the thought. I knew he saw it but he didn't ask, which I was glad of. We walked the next few minutes in silence.
"So why did you stop calling me Gray-Sama?" He asked randomly.
"I didn't want to anger Lyon by referring to you as that," I said.
As we got nearer to school, I distanced myself and looked away, not meeting his eyes. As we walked into the building, Lyon grabbed my arm and pulled me away to another, less crowded, hallway.
"Why were you with him," he narrowed him eyes and asked.
"He kept trying to ask me questions about why I 'cheated.' He knows I wouldn't do something like that without a reason. He knows me too well, Lyon," I said back.
"What did you answer?" He demanded.
"That it was none of his business and he should leave me alone. He stopped asking questions but kept following me to school since we were going the same way," I answered.
It wasn't too quick of an answer, but wasn't too fast either. I said it in a way that wouldn't raise suspicion. I had learned to do that quite well.
"One more question," he said.
I started sweating internally, knowing what he was gonna ask.
"Were you by any chance looking for Jamie this weekend?" He asked.
"Of course not. I'd get punished and I wouldn't even know where to look in the first place. Why?" I asked.
"Nevermind, ignore what I asked. Go to your classes. Our college only accepts top grades, remember? You better not be failing your classes on purpose," he said.
"Of course not," I said respectfully.
I didn't like being respectful towards him but I had to. Who knows how he'd react I I said something rude. He might use it as an excuse for another punishment. I left and went to my first class of the day.
Timeskip to when Juvia gets home:
I walk into the house and barely had time to put my backpack down before Mom and Dad pulled me back outside, closed and locked the door, and dragged me to the car. We got in and started driving. Dad tossed me a sandwich from the front seat while Mom drove what I recognized all too well as the route to the police station. I sat there quietly and confused as I ate the sandwich.
"Sooo, gonna tell me why we're on our way to the police station?" I asked casually although I knew it had something to do with Jamie.
"Honey, they found Jamie. They found your little brother!" Mom said as she made a quick right turn into the police parking lot. I hadn't even realized we were there. All I focused on were those 3 words. They found Jamie.
I was the first to get out of the car. I slammed the car door and ran inside. The receptionist didn't bother to stop me. She knew who I was. That's how often I'd been here. Just for Jamie's case.
I ran into our usual meeting room, opening the door abruptly. The chief and the detective looked up.
"I'm begging you, tell me where he is! Tell me where Jamie is! Please!" I begged.
My parents ran in panting, trying to catch their breaths from chasing me. As soon as the 3 of us calmed down, the chief and detective told us to take a seat. Apparently we were waiting for someone. A few minutes later Gray came in and sat down.
"Alright, now that all of us are here, let's discuss. Yes, we've located Jamie, but we need to discuss how to get him out of there," the detective said.
"Usually we wouldn't allow this out of fear the person would get hurt, but we think it's best if one of you comes with us. We have no idea who we're dealing with and Ms. Lockser and Mr. Fullbuster know him very well. We want one of you, with parents' permission of course, to come with us. We have no idea what to expect out of Lyon," the chief said.
"No, absolutely not. We will not risk our other child's safety. It's bad enough if something goes wrong and we lose one. We cannot lose the other. I don't know if you've spoken to Gray's parents already so I can't speak for them," Mom said.
"Mrs. Lockser, we had a feeling this would be the reaction we got. Rest assured, your daughter will not be in harm's way if she was the one coming with us. She'd stay back and only give us help on what to expect. We also need someone Jamie knows to calm him down. He's still only a child and it will most likely be very traumatic for him as well as for you," the detective explained.
"Two police officers will be with her or Mr. Fullbuster at all times. Both can come with us even. Mr. Fullbuster's parents have already agreed to him coming with us if he wants," the chief added.
"They agreed?" Dad questioned.
"Yes, although it took a lot of convincing," the chief sighed.
"Fine," my parents said.
"But if Juvia or Gray get hurt then we are pinning the blame on the police, understood?" Mom asked.
"Yes Ma'am of course. We will protect all 3 children," they agreed.
