I wake up to the most annoying sound my ears will ever hear. My alarm clock. Every single morning it goes off, even weekends. I don't really have a choice in turning it off on the weekends, as when I first got it, three years ago, I couldn't figure out how to work it and I somehow got it stuck on the alarm for everyday.
I let the buzzing of the alarm go on for several minutes before I reach over, grab the cord and tug on it with all my might and then all I hear is a zap and the cord becomes loose in my hands. I open my eyes and see that I have ripped the cord from the plug.
"Ugh" I sigh as I drop the cord and think to myself, "well I needed a new alarm clock anyways."
I lay back down on my stiff mattress and glare at my pale blue ceiling. As the minutes tick by, the light of the sunrise seeps through my blinds, lighting up the ceiling.
I turn over and pick up my iPod, unplugging it from the charge cable, not ripping the cord this time. I press the power button which reveals that my best friend Julia has texted me several times, asking if I wanted to go to the mall. I also realize that I was staring at my ceiling like an idiot for about two hours as it is now 10:00 am.
Julia was always the happy, cheerful, "I'll do anything" person. She has a bright personality which is reflected in her appearance. She has bleach blond hair and bright, sea blue eyes. She was up for any challenge and always faced her fears with a huge grin. Whereas I on the other hand, am the complete opposite. I am mostly quiet. I tend to shy away from my problems and I am always wearing black or grey. My hair is dark brown and has red, dip dyed tips. My eyes are a pale green the shimmers in the light. Yes Julia and I are the complete opposite, but haven't you ever heard the saying "opposites attract?"
I swipe the screen and punch in my passcode. My iPod automatically takes me to my text messages and she sends me yet another text that reads,
"Cassidy, come on wake up alreadyyyy I want to get to the mall before rush-hour!"
I sigh and reply with a "Hey, sorry Jules, I just woke up. I'll be ready in 30?"
Even though I don't want to leave my warm house, into the cold, harsh winter air, I do.
But only because Julia and I are bestfriends and because I just want to leave this horrid place. And I mean Julia may be a little irritating sometimes, with her such upbeat personality. But I can be too.I toss my iPod on the bed beside me and drag myself out of bed. I don't bother to make my bed, so the mattress is covered in a mess of sheets and pillows.
I walk over to my full-body mirror and see that my hair is a tangled, knotted mess. I don't really care though, I just leave it and place my soft, stained, black beanie over my greasy-looking roots. Then walking over to my closet, I rummage through my hung up shirts and decide on my black Pink Floyd t-shirt and then pick out a pair of grey skinny jeans.
I pull my pyjama top over my head and place my Pink Floyd shirt on in its place. Then I change out of my pyjama pants and put on my jeans. Looking at myself again I pose in front of the mirror and reach to the back of my neck, separating my hair into two, somewhat equal portions and then pull it to the front. I sigh as I gaze into my reflection, then I put on one blue sock, and one purple, I leave me room, turning off the light behind me.
My door makes a loud squeak as I close it.
"Morning Cassidy." My older step-sister Abigail says snobbishly, staring me down from head to toe. I give her a look of disgust and then turn and walk down the staircase without a word. Abigail and I were never close. She is just like Julia, but she flaunts herself off like she is a golden metal. When in reality, she's a complete jerk.As I reach the bottom of the staircase I swing myself toward the dining room and walk in that direction. As I approach the dining room table I realized there is a note on the table. The first thing that I read is "dear Abigail" and I lose my interest.
I make my way over to the refrigerator. Opening the door I reach in and grab the carton of chocolate milk and drink it straight from the opened carton. I close the carton and grab a banana from atop the fridge. Realizing that it is now 11:15, I told Julia I'd be ready in five more minutes. I leave my banana on the table and skip to the stairs. Walking two steps at a time, I make my way up the stairs. I am staring at me feet and don't realize that Abigail is walking towards me. I am off in my own little world until Abigail purposely rams me with her shoulder.
"Jesus Cassidy, maybe you should watch where you're going" she said in a tone. I glare at her as I walk into my room and slam the door.
Looking over at my bed, my iPod is on and I have a text from Julia. I walk over and pick it up. The text reads,
"Hey Cass, I'll be there in 5:)" I reply with an "okay" and then stuff my iPod into my back pocket. I tiptoe down the stairs and then peer around the corner, noticing that Abigail is in the kitchen.
I silently make my way in the opposite direction, to the foyer. I quietly sit down on the upholstered bench and silently pick up my black lace-up Doc Martins. Once my boots are on, I stand up and reach for my coat. By the door there is another full-body mirror, I put on my black coat, that has a fully furred hood and glare at my reflection. Then I hear two loud honks from Julia's car outside.
"Oh and there's the other annoying little brat I see" Abigail says from behind me. I turn and glare at her,
"Oh look yah it is you" I say and then walk out the door slamming it hard behind me.
