ViaVia ran her fingers through her hair. She has been stressing over the counter spell. She had so much work and the day of the Agreement signing was close. She was still worried about the Noter witches. She had no lead on them and until they joined forces with the Witch Hunters, they was no way she would pinpoint their location in the human city.
Her telephone distracted her distressed mind. "High Consul Hegens" she said picking it up. "Via!" It was Hessae. "Oh, Hessae", she rubbed her forehead, "hey". "You don't sound excited to hear from me". Hessae complained. It was like Via could see the frown on her friend's face.
"I'm sorry", she apologized sincerely, "I've been a little bit stressed".
"A little bit? Via, you haven't taken a break. I'm worried about you".
"I'm fine. A few hours of sleep and meditation should help. How's Jyla? You sound giggly so I'm guessing it went well".
"It did" Hessae's smile grew wider, "she misses you a lot though".
"I miss her too but weirdly, I'm glad she isn't here".
"Why? Does it have to do with your mom?"
"I'm not ready to tell her that it was our Mother that attacked her or about her plan to kill her. That was what my dream was about". Via would have felt more comfortable telling her in person but this was the only free time she has had. "She's free. Somehow, she found a way to breaking the binding spell. She can leave Noter and worse? She wants me on her side for her evil plan which involves getting rid of all distractions". She spilled everything then added, "I'm so confused".
Hessae was so sure what to say so she asked, "confused about what?"
"Why did she take Jyla when we were born? And why did she abandon her? Why is she so bent on making me work with her? What if she kills Jyla just like she killed our father? What if her plan is more evil than the others? What if I can't stop her?" Via groaned in frustration. Hessae was the only person she could expose her insecurities to.
"We have to take things one after the other", Hessae said after a brief silence, "Via, you are one of the bravest and most powerful witches I've ever met. You have a kind heart and that is all Solegad needs. Zirim has succeeded in taking someone from you. Yes! But you were a kid. You didn't have the experience or zeal like you do now. You can handle this and worse. And now...you have many people looking out for you so you never have to do it alone. Zirim doesn't stand a chance against you. We all believe in you, okay?"
Via finally let her breathing return to normal. She smiled sadly, "how did I get lucky to have a best friend like you?" She chuckled, "thank you, Hessae". "Anytime. Now that we're past that, what type of food is Jyla into?" "Are you in a twisted way trying to tell me that you asked her out?" Via smirked. "I didn't get the chance to but I will after the Centual Ceremony". Hessae blushed. "Fine! Take care of her. I'll get back to you about the food stuff. Bye". With that, the long call was ended.
Via sighed as she sunk into her seat. The room suddenly started closing in on her. She didn't need to wait for the vision as she heard Byl let out an inhuman scream. She rushed to the cage only to find Byl in a pool of blood with her eyes still open. A loud laughter filled the air but later died down.
She clicked her fingers letting the orange sparks examine Byl's body. There was no physical trace of her Mother but Via knew that Zirim got into her head. Byl probably discovered something about her plans or she did this to scare me. Via thought. She rubbed her forehead. She knew that her mother could waste anybody's life just to pass across a message but this was overwhelming.
She knew Jyla was safe in the Coven but she couldn't help but worry. What if she gets into someone else's head and they hurt Jyla? She grabbed her jacket and portalled into the Coven. She knew Jyla's room so she rushed into the elevator. She sighed once she didn't hear any calls for help. She composed herself and knocked. "It's opened!" She heard Jyla yell in a bored tone.
She pushed the door and let it creak open. Jyla didn't bother to leave the bed. She thought it was Mother Yalis or one of the other healers and she couldn't care less about seeing them. "I guess someone didn't miss their sister". Via teased. Jyla shot up from the bed, fell on the floor and scrambled to her feet. "Via!" She shouted with her eyes filled with joy.
She ran into the invisible wall between them earning a little shock. She soothed her right hand with the left and gave Via a smile. Via smiled back, "you can't come out", she stated, "and I can't come in. Not yet anyways". "Hessae told me", Jyla said trying to hide the blush on her cheeks from saying Hessae's name, "she dropped by a while ago". "I know. I just wanted to see if were okay".
"Why wouldn't I be? This room can't allow dark magic in".
"I know" she sighed. She had to tell Jyla the truth. Half the truth at least. "Byl is dead". Jyla had a shocked look on her face as she asked, "the cat woman? How?" Once Via hesitated with her answer, Jyla got the hint. "Was it the same woman that attacked me?" She asked to which Via nodded. Jyla paused and panic filled her heart. She decided to tell Via about her suspicions.
"Via" she called her twin, "there was something about her. Her eyes. It was like I was staring into mine or I had seen them before. She had black hair yes, but something about her was oddly familiar". Via wasn't ready to tell her that her mother was behind it. "I'll handle that", she assured her, "you just have to be careful. She has a unique power of using dreams to manipulate people so anyone could be under her influence".
Jyla had more questions but a flame ignited and made a scroll appear in Via's hands. Once Via saw the symbol of the Council, she knew it was urgent. "I'll see you later okay?" She flashed her a small smile. "After you find a counter spell" Jyla said trying to hide her disappointment. "After I find a counter spell". Via confirmed.
Without a second word, she portalled into The Agency. She avoided as many witches as possible as she rushed into the Grand Hall. She was the first to arrive. In less than a minute, all the councilors were inside. They didn't get a chance to sit down as Miltani made a groundbreaking announcement, "the Witch Hunters are opposed to signing the Agreement". What?!
Wow! It's been long but the queen is back and she loves you all.
So much tension! Do you think Via is right about keeping Jyla in the dark? Why did the witch hunters disagree? What is Zirim's plan?
Stay with me and find out lovelies!❤
