Via/JylaVia parked hastily and they jumped out of the car. Jyla was in tears. She was expecting the worst so why not start crying beforehand? Via charged in behind her. "David!" She screamed. New tears streamed down her face. David's eyes were gray just like his skin. He died screaming. Both of them could tell. Jyla forced herself to close his eyes.
Via had no idea how to comfort Jyla. She hated their mother and her Dad looked at her like a stranger before he died. She has spent all her life closed off from emotions. Sure she had a boyfriend, friends and people that she relied on but she has never been too attached to them. The only time she felt herself opening up was with Miltani but that was in the past. Miltani looked at her with so much hate now she was convinced that she had forgotten all their time together.
Jyla wiped her face. It was pointless because the tears couldn't stop. She dropped the lifeless body in search of Hannah. Hannah's head rested on the edge of the table that had been flipped over. Her blood stained the floor and soaked her flowing dress. "Hannah!" She choked out covering her mouth with her palm. Via broke out of her thoughts and held Jyla.
That was the best she could think off. Jyla leaned into Via's shoulder as she sobbed loudly. "You'll be fine". Via whispered. Jyla wanted to believe Via but she didn't. These people loved her and she was finally started to feel normal and now this crazy world that she was born in took them from her. Jyla's eyes burned. It glowed brightly. Something about Hannah pulled her away from Via.
She stifled her sobs and crouched down. Jyla placed her hand on Hannah's stomach. She could feel the tiny heartbeats. A child? She was confused. She knew Hannah had constant mood swings. Sometimes, she could be overly excited for no reason and other times, she would be grumpy and bossy.
The change started some months ago. She never put much thought into it. And she was still on bed rest at that time. Her heart shattered into a million pieces when the heartbeats stopped. She sat in the pool of blood. She was finally going to have a baby after years of trying and now, they were both gone. Jyla thought. She could help but blame herself for this.
Via read her expression, "this wasn't your fault", she said to Jyla, "even if you were here, you wouldn't be able to protect them. Seeing you hurt would have been worse for them". Jyla resumed her crying. She hated that Via was right. She knew nothing about her powers. Via patted her shoulder. Jyla squeezed the hand. At the back of her mind, she was glad that she still had Via with her. Her sister. Her twin.
Via shot orange sparks into the air. Her eyes didn't change colors meaning she had control. Only Jyla and Via's eyes ever glowed. They all had different energy colors but the eye glowing was reserved for the powerful twins. The house had had been a mesas but the magic was putting everything in order.
Via's ears caught a sound so she turned her hand to stop the arrow in midair. The arrow was aimed at her forehead. She dropped her hand and so did the arrow. Arrows were the symbol of the Straight Oren. "Don't make another move" a male voice commanded. She recognized the person though. He had no idea who she was but she knew all about the Orens.
The remaining members showed themselves. "Karl Midigen" she said his name. His Oren drew their weapon. They knew that they couldn't underestimate the witch in front of them especially since she knew their leaders name. Karl made a sign with his fingers not breaking the eye contact. Just like before, a girl used a glow stick to scan the room.
It glowed bright red unsurprisingly to Via. Clearly, they could see Hannah's dead body so the scan was pointless. Karl pulled out his Fleme blade. He moved closer to Via but retracted almost immediately. He put the blade back in it's sheath. "Who are you?" He asked. His face was stiff and his blond hair covered part of his right eye.
Via wasn't intimidated and she didn't feel oblige to answer so she crossed her arms while keeping her lips shut. He put his hand on the blade but one of the guys behind him. The guy looked young with his brushed back hair. "It couldn't have been them", he blurted, "can't you feel it?" They all paused considering his words. They did feel it. The magic aura in the room was overwhelming. "If they were the culprits", he continued, "the Spiral Oren would be here in our stead".
Via smirked since Karl didn't flinch. "He's a smart boy", she let her glows for a second, "you better listen to him". Karl dropped his hand and tried his best to hide his new fear of the witch. "If you had nothing to do with this, why are you here?" He asked coldly and rudely.
"I'd watch that tone if I were you", Via was slightly annoyed, "even if I wasn't a Consul, I wouldn't tolerate disrespect".
"Whatever. Answer the question"
"They were her parents-" she glanced at Jyla who was oblivious to the scene that was taking place, "-and she got a call some minutes before the tragedy. We were too late. And judging by the energy signature, it was clearly Noter witches".
"So...how do you fit into the picture?" He eyed her maliciously.
"She's a new witch under my watch and she's my...younger sister". That was all Jyla needed to snap into the real world. Why would Via lie about them? She thought. She knew that the guy, Karl or whatever his name is, has no business with them so the truth wasn't really necessary but Via wouldn't lie without a reason.
"This is a waste of our time, Karl", the only girl among them complained, "we still have to hunt them down and fume them before the do anymore damages". Via scrunched her nose at the mentioning of fuming but she couldn't stop them even if she wanted to. She even had more pressing matters to attend to.
They walked out with Karl giving Via the stink eye. "Why did you lie about us?" Jyla interrogated. "We have a big case on our hands and that's what you're worried about?" Via couldn't believe her. Jyla still had a stern look on. Via didn't want to have their first sibling fight here so she lied again, "he's not important to us and that was the first good reason I could think of".
Jyla had a feeling Via wasn't telling the full truth but this wasn't the moment to pick a fight. Via made a portal and they arrived at home. Jyla reminded her of the car but Via just shrugged. She hated the human vehicle afterall. "Grab your bag" Via ordered. Jyla rushed to her room. She knew better than to counter a Via in Consul mode. This day has been crazy rough. Jyla couldn't wait for it to be over.
I'm back from Lucibane! I paid some of the demons a visit. I'm heading off to Zirim next.
Just kidding!
Anyways, her foster parents are dead. Sad😟☹️! But it's for the best.
Just to be clear, only Via and Jyla's eyes glow. The others just have different colours that shoot out of their hands.
I can't wait to introduce you to Solegad! Stay with me and we'll take a tour!
I do have some bad news though. I know I just came back but my parents are making me pause all my writing. It's health related. So whenever I'm cleared (I have no idea how long), I'll have some smashing ideas to make up for it.
Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: To be honest, I'm scared of being scared. I don't know if that sounds confusing or cliché but it's the truth. I'm afraid of experiencing fear.
