Via

It's been a month since the engagement and things were not easier. More humans were disappearing and there has been rumors that some Solegad witches were around the area. The poisoning hasn't stopped and many witches have dark magic either from birth or from being experiments.

Via was frustrated. She didn't know how to manage her job and keep Jyla safe at the same time. She couldn't tell Jyla about work because most of the attacks were just to get her and according to the dream she recently had, her Mother was ready to kill the world if Jyla isn't handed over.

The Centual Ceremony went well. Via missed it because she had an important meeting at The Infern but she got the details from Hessae. Turns out Lorinth was her Iaota. She spends most of her time at his lake house practicing her magic. Lorinth never failed to give Via the updates on her training. She was proud of Jyla.

Hessae called her earlier. She said it was an emergency. She barged into the Infirmary with her worry hidden under its usual mask. "What happened?" She asked glancing around the room for anything alarming. "This" Hessae sighed before unveiling a body. It was a human. "What happened to him?" Via asked examining the body.

His throat was slit and his eyes were wide open in shock. His skin was pale almost gray in color. "I got a call from a witch that works in a diner, Downtown", she explained, "and when I got there I found him in the alley". "It looks like a normal human murder". Via said. "That's what I thought too", Hessae showed Via a beaker filled with blood, "but when I ran a test on his blood, I found traces of magic. Mostly likely the weapon used to kill him was made with magic".

Via almost scoffed. "That's impossible", she shook her head, "only Witch Hunters carry weapons like that. They wouldn't kill humans. It's their job to protect them". "It's either they did this to frame witches or a witch is framing them", Hessae frowned, "it can't be otherwise". "I will have a word with Manter", Via told her, "and if there really are rogue Witch Hunters, they will face the law".

Suddenly, a blaring alarm went off. "That alarm hasn't gone off in years". Hessae said as blood drained from her face. They both rushed out of the room. "What's going on?" Via asked in her High Consul voice. "High Consul" a warlock sighed, "thank goodness, you're here. There has been an attack in Kenith". "What happened?" Her voice was the exact opposite of what she was feeling.

The warlock waved his hand and a map appeared. "Increased dark magic activities were spotted here", he pointed to a place, "we believe the Noter witches found a concentrated weak point in the barrier and they were able to force their way in. Although there are no signs of a group, we think it was a one man job". "Casualties?" She asked. "About twenty. The entire apartment building was affected". He said. "Status?" "Poisoned. All of them".

Via called together a team. "I need you to go to the remaining buildings in Kenith and put up wards". She instructed them. She turned to the warlock, "is the Sergeant aware?" "Yes", he answered, "her team portalled there some minutes ago". "Good. Any news on the Consul or his Liases?"

"Nothing but there was a trail of blood in his office. We think the Consul is dead. As for the Liases, some of them went on a mission to the nearest human city as back up".

"What?! Where are the Liases for the humans?"

"They got an emergency call from Soho remember? You sent them out last week".

"Right" Via paused, "okay. I need a transmitter set up in the area so that any victims can be immediately rushed to the Coven. And ensure you stay updated with the Liases. They might rush down here and I need to be informed of their arrival".

"Understood" He nodded. Via wanted to place a call to Manter. They needed back up. If they entered Kenith, Southern Easian would be next and that city is filled with undertrained witches and warlocks. "Um High Consul?" That warlock called on her again. "Yes?" She answered. "There is something else".

His blue sparks formed an image. "This was written in the Consul's office. It's some kind of sign language". Via studied the dots. This was an advanced language for witches. Her eyes went wide and she balled her hands into fists once she understood the message. "Keep working on it", she ordered, "I will get the Witch Hunters to help as soon as possible. Good job". She didn't even notice the warlock's smile due to her compliment.

She was furious. Even though her face didn't show it, Hessae could tell. She dropped her conversation with some witches to talk to Via. "Via, what's wrong?" She asked. "Except the bad news, nothing else", she lied, "I have to get the Witch Hunters". "Via, I know you and whatever drastic step you want to take, think it through", Hessae warned, "if anything happens to you, this would only get worse". "I know. Tell Jyla I'll be gone for a while. I'm going to the The Infern", she said, "and keep track of the humans. If you get any more reports like that, don't hesitate to send a letter". "Be careful" Hessae quipped. Via nodded and walked away.

She hated lying to Hessae but she couldn't tell her what she was going to do. I hope you love your presents Zavia. If you don't want things to get worse, come home. I'll be waiting. You have less than 24 hours to make the right choice or this time, the lake house is next. The message rang in her head.

Her mother was doing this because of her. She couldn't take it anymore. Once she got to the apartment, she called Manter. She didn't even have time to give him details. She packed some necessary potions, her spell book and the enchanted wand. She thought of Jyla when she opened the portal. I'll keep you safe at all costs, Jyla. I promise. And with that, she jumped in.

Hell just broke loose on the witches. What is Via's next move? How will things with Zirim go?
