~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Athena sat beside Nic, holding his hand. She looked at his body which was covered in scars and the only wound he had was through his heart. Albero had carried Nic's body into the tent himself and tried to give him medical attention but nothing could stop the bleeding. He said that the knife had pierced his heart and there wasn't anything he could do. Nic had stopped breathing about an hour ago but Athena refused to leave him. She kept loosing people that she loved and it was slowly killing her. She laid her head down on Nic chest and began to cry. Then she felt a tentative hand touch her shoulder. She lifted her head to see Albero with a plate of food. He still had some blood on his clothing.
"You hungry?" He asked, his voice was filled with concern and sadness.
Athena shook her head, Albero sighed and laid the plate on a stand beside Athena. Athena rested her head back on Nic's chest and accidentally drifted into sleep. She hadn't been asleep long because when she jerked her head up the birds where still singing. Her hand was still laced through Nic's cold fingers. Athena looked over Nic's body once more. He was shirtless and bloody, and his pink lips where now a deathly shade of purple. His right hand was laid over his stomach. Athena brushed her hand through Nic's dark brown hair. Maybe she pulled the knife out wrong or too slowly- no she had to quit thinking about it. There was nothing she could do now. Most of the blood she had on her was Nic's, but at the moment she didn't care.
"Nic...I-I think I love you." Athena whispered "I was going to tell you before but-" she was interrupted by her own crying.
"Athena." A male voice whispered. Her mind must have been playing tricks on her but when she looked behind her Albero stood before her.
"Look um.. You need to eat" Albero cleared his throat and spoke a little louder.
Athena nodded, she was in no mood to talk at the moment. Before she knew Albero knelt down beside her.
"I thought that- that stuff keeps him from dying." Athena wimpered.
"His heart was a week spot anyways, we tried to fix it with other subjects but it ended up killing them." Albero answered.
"We had one subject, 103-A she was the first one to survive but her brain couldn't handle the stress." Albero continued.
"Is there any chance he could be alive?" Athena asked.
"Possibly, his consciousness could be in a comatose state, but it's very doubtful." Albero sighed.
Athena lowered her head and let out a soft cry. Albero wrapped his arm around her in a comforting way. After a few moments he got up and left the tent. Athena looked back over at Nic but there was something very off. His lips didn't appear purple anymore and his hand felt warmer. She felt as if she was actually holding his hand. Then the most odd part was she felt his hand twitch.
"Okay now I'm losing my mind." Athena whispered to herself.
Apparently she wasn't because this time Nic's hand tensed in hers. Frantically she released his hand and stared at the clenched fist she had just released.
