Subject 305-b

Chapter 20

Nic stood up and faced her she had no reaction to his presence, she was standing there like she never knew him. He had no idea what to say to her, she was so different. Nic looked into her eyes, they were the same color as his. He reached out to grab her arm but the moment there skin touched a blast threw them both twenty feet back. Nic landed on a piece of rubble, he sat up and Athena ran up to him and laid her hand on his chest. He had no idea how she got her hands untied.

"I'm fine." Nic mumbled.

He looked down at his shirt which was now black from smoke. Cassandra had stood up and was wiping off her shirt. Nic and Athena walked back over to Cassandra who was helping Jake up. Jakes face was bloody, his nose also looked broken but he was still smiling.

"Nic meet Subject 306-a, Cassandra." Jake smiled. "Well the new and improved Cassandra."

"Lei non sa nemmeno chi sei. Jake whispered. {She doesn't even know who you are.}

"Fottiti!" Nic whispered.

He gave Jake a challenging look before he punched him in the face again. Jake fell to the ground and Nic went to punch him again but something hit him on the head. Blood dripped down his head but immediately stopped cause the wound had healed. Cassandra held a metal pipe in her hands, she went swing again but Nic caught the pipe and snached it out of her hands. He hit her behind her knees making her fall down. Nic grabbed a chain that was laying on the ground and tied it around Cassandra's arms. He pulled out his pistol and pointed it at her head. He knew he couldn't shoot her even though she had betrayed him. Instead he turned the gun towards Jake and shot. The bullet had hit him in the thigh, Jake yelled and shot his gun.

The bullet flew right past Nic but hit someone else, Raphael. Raphael looked down at chest, blood soaking the left side of it. Fear filled his eyes as he collapsed into Albero's arms. Athena and Nic both ran over to their friend.

"Your going to be fine, just a scrach man." Nic said trying to reassure him.

Raphael laughed weakly as he held his hand out to him. Nic grabbed his hand and Rapael placed a piece of paper in Nic's hand.

"You. stay. loyal." Rapheal coughed.

Nic nodded his head, Raphael smiled and closed his eyes taking his last breath. Athena and Reyna were both in tears, and Albero look like he was in shock. Nic looked at the picture Raphael handed him, it was a picture of Nic and Athena holding hands as they were walking into battle. Nic folded the picture and put it into his pocket. He closed Rapheal's eyes and crossed his hands over his chest.

"Riposa in pace, amico mio." Nic said to Raphael. {Rest in peace, my friend.}

"Good luck catching us now Nic!" Jake yelled. "And sorry about your friend!"

Nic looked up to see Jake and Cassandra in standing at the door of the space craft. Jake was smiling like a madman and waving. Nic fired another shot but the door closed and the bullet bounced harmlessly off.

"SON OF A-"

"Nic calm down." Athena warned.

"But he got away! We don't even know were he is going!" Nic shouted.

"Yes we do." Reyna replied holding out a map.

"How did you?"

"I have my ways."

Nic grabbed the map out of her hands and studied it. It was all written in Italian and some Latin. The map was of the United States, the biggest cities had large X's over them.

"Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Houston." Nic listed.

"He is going to destroy them all." Athena gasped.

"No. we are going to stop him." Nic replied.

"How are we gonna catch him?" Reyna asked. "With our flying rainbow unicorn?"

"No they left us a ship." Nic said. "But it looks like it needs to be fixed."

"Before we do anything lets give Raphael a proper burial. " Albero mumbled.

"Yes we should." Athena sighed.

Nic and Albero were building a coffin with scraps of metal that was lying around. It wasn't the best coffin ever made but it would work. Athena and Reyna gathered some flowers from the field and making them into a bouquet. Albero found a stone slab and was carving Raphael's name on it. Nic started digging the hole with a shovel Athena had found. Him and Albero took turns digging even though Nic could have some it himself. They finished and Albero placed the headstone. Nic carefully picked up Raphael's body and placed him in the coffin and placed the lid on top. They all helped place the his coffin down in the grave. All of them threw a handful of dirt down into the grave. Athena and Nic finished filling the grave with dirt. Albero sat down beside Raphael's grave, head lowered.

Reyna, Nic and Athena started to work on the spacecraft. It was fairly small but was big enough to hold them all. It was small like a helicopter but looked like a jet. The spacecraft was bluish-gray in color. Not much was wrong with just a few searches and dents. Athena looked over at Albero who was still sitting beside Raphael's grave.

"He looks so distraught Nic." Athena mentioned.

"He's lost a good friend." Nic sighed. "We all have."

"Yeah, we have." Reyna sniffed.

The ship was all fixed up and ready to go, would it actually fly, that was the only thing they didn't know. Nic smiled when he saw a paint brush and some paint. He took the brush and wrote 'The Flying Rainbow Unicorn' on the side of the craft. Athena gave him a puzzled look and then started laughing. Reyna wasn't paying attention so Athena tapped her on the shoulder. She turned around and when saw what Nic had written she rolled her eyes.

"Now we can get there on our Flying Rainbow Unicorn." Nic laughed.

"Catchy." Athena smiled.

"Well it is your spacecraft Nic." Reyna snickered.

"Haha, funny." Nic replied sarcastically.

"Where is Jake headed first?" Albero asked, which startled the three of them.

"Hold on I'll look." Nic cleared his throat.

He pulled out the map and began to look it over, seeing if it might give any hints to were Jake is going first. Some of the Latin wasn't understandable but he was able to make out that Jake was going to Rome, Italy. Which was very odd because it was the only place not in the U.S. marked.

"You guys ever been to Rome?" Nic asked.

"Nope" Athena Responded, "but we are going to."

"Well get your things together, we need to leave now." Albero announced.

They gathered their things and placed them in the spacecraft along with themselves.

"How long will it take us to get there?" Nic asked Albero.

"Not long." Albero answered. "We got the speed of light."

"Um is that safe?" Nic asked nervously.

"I guess we'll find out."

And they took off.
