Subject 305-b

Chapter 18

Athena watched as Nic's beautiful blue eyes opened and looked up at her. She gasped and wrapped her arms protectively around him. Nic flinched and Athena immediately released him.

"Sorry!" Athena exclaimed. Nic rolled his eyes and moved his hand to heart.

The pain was almost unbearable, when he woke up again it had hit him faster than he could take his first breath. Nic looked up at Athena who had tears rolling down her cheeks. He noticed blood was plastered on her face but there was no wound for it to have come from. He lifted his hand to her cheek and gently wiped a some of the blood away.

"I'm okay" Nic whispered, "but I need you to get Albero.

Athena nodded her head and walked out of the tent. She looked a little surprised that he had asked for Albero. Finally about five minutes later Albero walked in smiling. He grabbed a cloth and laid it on Nic's chest, putting pressure on the wound.

"Gah! Holy shit!" Nic complained, it was the first time in a while he actually felt pain.

"I'm sorry would you like to bleed to death again?" Albero asked sarcastically.

Nic gave him the death stare, Albero snickered and put more pressure. Nic yelled out in pain and pushed him away. He sat up and threw his legs over the bed and sat there for a moment. Albero came back over to Nic with bandage wraps. Taking the roll in one hand and holding the end of it down, Albero wrapped a few layers on the bandage around Nic's chest. He threw Nic's arm over his shoulder and lifted him up. They walked outside where Athena was waiting for them. Albero gently moved Nic's arm off of his shoulder allowing him to stand on his own. Nic tired for a moment but to keep his balance he had to lean against Albero. Then a someone ran up to Albero and Nic, he stopped looking out of breath and have Albero and Nic a funny look.

"Uh.. Sir we found one still alive." The man announced.

"Good bring him here." Nic commanded.

The guy looked over at Albero, he nodded and the guy took off running. Nic glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw Reyna walking up to them. When she realized it was Nic her eyes widened but quickly changed into a sly smile.

"We just can't get rid of him, can we?" Reyna asked Albero, laughing.

"You wouldn't know what to do without me." Nic smiled. "Where's Athena?"

"And you wouldn't know what to do without her." Reyna joked. "I'll go get her." Reyna walked about a foot away then stopped and came back to Nic.

"Wha-" Nic started, and surprisingly Reyna wrapped her arms around Nic and hugged him. She let him go and before he could say anything and walked away. It was odd seeing that Reyna actually cared about people. A few seconds later Athena walked out of a medical tent. She took off and apron she had on and threw it in a bin. Athena had been helping take care of Albero's injured solders. She walked up to Nic, obviously happy that he was okay. Nic cared about her but he didn't know if she had any feelings for him. She laced her fingers through his and helped him walk, sort of. She had a hard time holding up his weight so Nic had to concentrate just to walk. It was comforting to him to have someone's hand to hold, and he wasn't about to hold Albero's. Albero led both of them to a large tent with two guards standing in front. Both of them wouldn't look Nic in eyes, keeping their heads down as they walked into the tent. When they entered a very familiar reptilian man sat on the ground with his hands and webbed feet tied together. When he saw Nic he scowled and hissed. Athena must have known something was wrong because she squeezed his hand and slightly smiled at up at him. Albero stepped in front of them and stared down the reptile.

"Tu chi sei!" Albero asked the reptile man. {Who are you!}

"Il mio nome è alcuna preoccupazione per voi." The reptile hissed. {My name is no concern for you.}

"Sappiamo che avete una connessione a Jake." Albero said, crouching down I front of him. {We know you have a connection to Jake.}

"Vai all'inferno." The reptile muttered.
{Go to hell.}

Albero sighed and looked up at Nic, he wasn't very good at these things. Athena is but she doesn't speak Italian very well. Nic let go of Athena's hand and crouched beside Albero. Nic looked at the face of the reptile man before him, his swap green eyes burned into Nic. He noticed there was a arrow sticking out of the reptiles leg, a few inches deep. Then it hit him, this was the same man that was with D'ren in Jake's ship. The same man he thought was there to help him but was actually working for Jake. The reptile had obviously recognized Nic but didn't say anything. He grabbed the base of the arrow and pushed it deeper into the reptiles leg.

"Dove è Jake?!" Nic demanded. {Where is Jake?!}

"Qui, Jake è qui." He screeched in pain. "Ma lui sta lasciando domani sera. Lei non potrà mai arrivare in tempo!"
{Here, Jake is here! But he is leaving tomorrow evening. You will never get there in time.}

"Jake sarà al vecchio campo d'aviazione!" The Reptile added.
{Jake will be at the old airfield!}

"I know where that is!" Athena announced. "It's not far from here."

"Looks like that's where we are going then." Nic replied.

Nic stood up wiped his hands on his pants and took Athena's hand. They walked back to his tent and began to gather their things. Nic sat down on the bed and picked up his blades, tying them on. He put a clean shirt on and slid his jacket on, which oddly enough wasn't damaged. Athena was quickly throwing her clothes in a backpack. Nic's things where already put into his bag and his sword and guns where laying on the bed. He picks them up and puts them into the holsters. He looks up at Athena to see that she had put on tight leather hunting pants and a leather jacket like his. She picks up her sword and turns to him.

"Well let's get going." Athena smiled
"Albero and Reyna are coming as well."

They walked out of the tent together carrying their things. Outside Albero was waiting in front of an odd looking car. It kinda looked like a Mustang mixed with a Volkswagen bug with truck tires. Albero told them this would be their ride to the old airfield, and that it would be fast enough to get them there by four o'clock. Just enough time to be able to catch Jake. Nic felt like this was going to be much harder than it sounded and most of the time that wasn't good.
