Subject 305-b

Chapter 8

The lizard men had scaled skin each different shades of green and brown. Sharp fangs and alligator tails didn't make them attractive at all. Athena handed slid the handle the silver sword she had kept at her waist.

"Sorry I'm not stocked in guns" Athena whispered to Nic. "My people don't have access to fire arms"

Nic felt uncomfortable holding a sword, but the lizard men where advancing on them. Barring their fangs and their ugly faces getting closer. One of them got face to face with Nic, he could smell there breath which smelled of rotten fish and breath mints.

"NOW!" Athena yelled, and at that time she shot two of them down with her bow. Nic sliced one of the lizard men heads off. As he was fighting with one of the lizard men Athena screamed.
She was pinned down with a dagger held to her neck.

"Make another move mostro and we'll drain la cagna of all her blood!" Yelled the lizard man holding the dagger to Athena's neck. The lizard men where speaking Italian, Nic thought it was strange.

"Okay, okay let's not do anything rash. How about we make a deal." Nic said as calmly as he could.

"They won't listen to you! You have a bounty on your head" Athena squeaked. "And all these demons care about is money."

"Zitto cagna! We will make no deal with you!" It screeched. "We where ordered to kill you so si tingere."

The four of the five remaining lizards launched themselves at Nic. He sliced ones leg while dodging a bullet shot by another. He shot behind one slicing it's neck from behind. Then one of them got behind Nic and hit him in the head with the butt of their gun. Nic fell to the ground but he had felt no pain. The sword slid out of his reach when the lizard man jumped on him. Nic was pinned down and it smiled showing it's ugly fangs. Nic used his new given power to flip over on top of the lizard. Nic pinned it down, grabbing it's head and ripped it's head off using his bare hands. The other lizard men where starting to retreat after watching there leaders head get ripped off.

Nic looked over and saw Athena still lying on ground with a blood stain on her hunting shirt. He ran over to her and knelt down; She had been stabbed.

"I'll be okay.." Athena coughed. She tried to sit up but she fell back down and Nic caught her.

"Hold still, and don't freak out." Nic whispered. He looked down and concentrated on her wound. It started to close up and Athena fell asleep. It was about nine o'clock now.

"I don't understand why it puts them to sleep" Nic mumbled to himself.

Nic picked up Athena in his arms and carried her inside the cabin. When he pushed open the door a woman about in her forties sat in a handmade wheelchair. She was missing one of her feet and her left eye, with scars all over her. Her skin was a darker purple than Athena's so Nic guessed she was he sister. She stared at him for a moment like he was some kind of rodent tying to steal there food.

"I heard the fighting outside," Reyna said. "Lay her down over there and you can sleep there" Reyna said pointing to a small bed in the corner and then to another small bed against the wall beside the Athena's bed. Nic gently laid her down on the bed and threw a blanket over her. He walked over to the other bed and laid down. Nic didn't fall asleep at first because he felt like Reyna was watching him.

Nic was dreaming that he was with his friends and Cassandra, back when they had their first group date. Nic and Cassandra snuck out to sit in the field to be alone together. Then his dream changed, Jake was laughing hysterically while holding a bloodied knife. He was standing on top of a hill of disassembled bodies.

"This isn't the end, I will shed the blood of all the people you love!" Jake said laughing.

As Nic focused on the bodies he began to recognize faces; his mother, and all of his friends. Jake continued laughing as the dream faded.
