"After that we made it to the woods."
Athena concluded.Nic started thinking about the time he had spent trapped by Jake and those men in containment suits. He remembered one night when the alarm started going off. The memory was fuzzy, mostly because of what he had injected into him. But he could recall some of the things he had heard that night. The sound of the siren and the guys in containment suits yelling, the sound of someone being chased. Nic stopped and looked at Athena.
"Impossible." Nic mumbled.
"What?" Athena asked
"I was there for seven years how is possible..." Nic whispered.
"You where there but how?" Athena looked confused.
Nic started telling her about how Jake had kidnapped him and made him see things. He told her about Cassandra and how Jake had killed her. He told her everything, but he left out the part about Jake making him a war weapon. Athena sighed and her nose flared, she new that Nic wasn't telling her everything. She wondered if he would ever trust her enough to tell her the truth.
"It only felt like a few days not seven years." Nic stated in confusion.
Athena scratched her head, her lime green eyes looked around as if trying to search for the answer. The moon light made her skin glow and her eyes sparkle. She looked so much different at night as if the moon gave her more beauty.
"Hey!" Athena snapped her fingers in front of Nic's face. "We need to find shelter for the night, or we might get eaten."
Nic used one of his powers to find shelter. He could see through things and from far away he saw a small cave. It was about a quarter of a mile east, Nic took the lead. Something moved behind them, Nic pushed Athena down and unsheathed his wrist blades. He sensed where the presence was and sneaked around behind it. The figure was standing up holding what looked like a stick in it's hand. Nic stood up and ran towards it kicking the stick from it's hand. Grabbing it and holding the wrist blade to its neck. Athena walked up with her dagger drawn.
"I've seen this one before, one of Jakes best one hundred." Athena stated with a sigh. It struggled trying to get away but Nic pushed the blade closer on its throat.
"Best one hundred?" Nic grunted.
"Yes. The one hundred men that have vowed their lives to Jake. The best warriors in the whole galaxy." Athena replied sarcastically. She leaned down and picked up what the man had been holding. It looked like a shotgun but a little smaller. Athena examined it for a moment and pointed it at a tree. She pulled the trigger but it made no sound. But where the tree she had shot at had a hole the size of a dime through it. Athena smiled and sat the gun down.
"Silent shotgun, thanks for the gift." Nic plunged his blade into its backs. It groaned and fell to the ground. Nic picked up the shotgun and slid it into a strap on his back. He scanned the area around the cave and him and Athena slid into the cave. Athena had gathered some wood to make a fire. She was cooking some meat she had stored in her backpack. Nic walked over to the cave wall and swiped his hand over some paintings.
"What does this mean?" Nic asked turning to Athena.
She stood up and walked over to the wall and traced her fingers over the painting.
"It tells the tale of Aditi- mother of gods" Athena responded. "She was a great warrior, my peoples patron. It tells how her hands guide us, and how her loves gives us faith." She ran her hand across Nic's back, and Nic shrugged her hand off. He walked over to the fire and sat down. Athena sighed and unfolded her sleeping bag. Nic stared at the fire, listening to it crackle. He still missed Cassandra, the way she laughed at his dumb jokes and the way her forehead would wrinkle when she was mad. They could alway make each other smile. Athena was very much like her, well Cassandra wasn't purple but that's not the point. He liked how Athena would lay her hand on the hilt of her sword, like she was waiting for the moment to strike. Nic could tell that Athena had felt something for him but her people had strange ways. Maybe she was just being nice to the human who crash landed face first into her front yard. Then something hit Nic the top of Nic's head.
"You okay" Athena laughed.
"Yeah," Nic answered "just startled me."
Athena laughed and laid down on her sleeping bag. Her hand clutched around the handle of her sword. Nic yawned and unfolded his sleeping bag. He laid his new shotgun and his pistol beside the sleeping bag. Nic drew his sword and sat down on the sleeping bag. He ran the blade down his hand, a gash appeared and it healed almost immediately. No pain and not a drop of blood, but what was strange is that he felt his hand repair itself. He glanced into a puddle that was beside him. He looked totally different, his sea green eyes where bright blue. His dusty blonde hair was now brown. He looked more grown up but not by growing himself. Even his hight had changed drastically, he was short now he was about 6'4. Jake had made him look like this, made him...handsome, stronger, smarter, and gave him strange powers he hardly understood. Athena grunted in her sleep interrupting his thoughts. Nic sat the sword down and laid down on the sleeping bag, closing his eyes.
Something rustled outside, both Nic and Athena jumped up swords in hand. They looked at each other and nodded and moved towards the exit. They stood side by side trying to locate the source of the noise. Then something stepped into the moonlight. A familiar figure stood in front of them.
