One of the shorter chapters because, well, school decided to throw a couple of tests at us.

Enjoy!

When Adam? What Adam? How Adam? Why Adam?

Avery doesn't like Adam.

Out of the corner of his eye, Adam saw Avery walk toward him. He grumbled under his breath, "What in the hell do you want?"

She narrowed her eyes. "I just want to talk, okay?" She raised her cup, some of its contents spilling onto the floor and indicated to the place around them. "And I'm pretty sure I can since it's my party."

Adam frowned. "I told you to never speak to me again. You have some nerve showing up after –"

She straightened up in front of him. "Look, Adam, your problem with me is understandable but if you let me explain –"

"Piss off, Eden."

Avery took in a deep breath. "For once, if you'd shut up, I could explain but, no, it's all my fault. Why don't you go find Evelyn, I'm sure she's more than willing to deal with your temper tantrums –"

"Leave, Evelyn and my sister out of this."

Avery placed a finger on his lip silencing him. She grabbed him by his collar, pulling him down to her level. "Look, stop acting like you know everything that happened, especially, if you're not willing to hear the truth about Líla. Now if you want to stay at this party, I suggest you get out of my sight. If it wasn't for Mira, I would have kicked your ass. Also, if you dare hurt her because of me, you'll have hell to pay." Adam took a step back confused; Mira hadn't told anyone that they broke up – not that many knew they were dating in the first place.

"Mira," he said her name as if he suddenly realized something. He smirked, realizing he could use her relationship with the Edens to his advantage. He grabbed the drink from Avery's hand and drank it in one swig, before stomping away.

Avery huffed in disgust. Men.

She made her way back inside to get another drink from the kitchen. She leaned against the countertop, blatantly, trying to ignore the couple sucking each other's faces off behind her.

Immediately, her mind began to drift and she wondered, bitterly, if Adam and Mira had ever done the same whilst she was away. She had a million questions: 'one: why had she started dating Adam; two: when exactly did they start dating; three: how did they start dating and four: why Adam?'

Even her brother would have been better.

She took a large gulp of her drink and lowered her cup in time to catch Aiden sneaking upstairs. Avery assumed that Mira was the girl, buried in the oversized clothes, walking behind him. A smile lifted her lips. She narrowed her eyes and she pushed herself off the counter towards them. The party was slowly growing to its peak, more people entered and, as usual, most of which Avery did not know. She made her way to the bottom of the stairs when Evelyn bumped into her.

"Avery, you're back!" She clung onto her, with her manicured nails, which dug into Avery's leather jacket.

Avery grabbed her before she tipped over and held her upright, whilst rolling her eyes. She pulled Evelyn aside and steadied her against the wall. "What do you want, Eve?"

She battered her unnaturally long eyelashes caked with mascara. "What's wrong with wanting to hang out with an old friend?" She let the last word draw out as she fiddled with the chains hanging off Avery's pants.

Avery cringed back. "Look, no offence, but I don't like shared property, so I'll pass."

She tried to gently push Evelyn away, so she could make her way past but Evelyn grabbed her arm and brought her close. Avery gritted her teeth together, starting to get irritated, as Evelyn placed her arms around her. That's when she saw Aiden re-emerge with Mira in hand, heading towards the lounge. Avery's eyes were immediately drawn to her red dress and next to her bright red lips.

She gulped and couldn't decide between wanting to cover Mira up with her jacket, from all the stray glances, or throwing Mira over her shoulder and taking her back to her room for the rest of the night.

Evelyn pouted trying to get Avery to look down at her by placing her hands on her cheeks.

Avery looked at her. "Evelyn, stop."

Evelyn got the message this time but it was too late for Avery.

She made eye contact with Mira across the room. To anyone passing by it would look as if Avery was holding Evelyn more intimately than it was. She quickly stepped back from Evelyn but Mira had already disappeared with Aiden.

Avery walked towards the basement, where the dance floor was, and where the duo seemed to be heading. When she got downstairs, she scanned the room. People were grinding against each other, filling up the floor; sweat dripping off their compact bodies but no one seemed to care. They sang along to the songs at the top of their lungs, causing the whole room to bounce with kinetic energy. In the shadows, teenagers sat on each other's laps, making the most of tonight like there was no tomorrow.

It didn't help that "Everything tonight" by Pitbull & Ne-yo was being played.

Avery made her way over to the DJ booth, standing on the platform. It was hard to make out who was who in the dim lighting but eventually her sights fell on Mira, who twirled in her red dress, clearly showing it off to Adam. Aiden was nowhere in sight. She started to make her way to Mira but stopped halfway there when she saw Adam drag her to the dance floor. She watched as he pulled Mira close, his hand slipped to the back of Mira's neck tilting her head up to him. For a split second, he made eye contact with Avery and smirked as he leaned in toward Mira.

Avery turned away before she could see him kiss her. She felt something drip down her hand and she realized her hand crushed the cup she was holding. She dropped it onto the ground and walked back upstairs, to her room, where Evelyn was standing just outside her door. Evelyn gave her a flirtatious wave, beckoning her over.

'Perfect'. All Avery needed was a distraction and Evelyn seemed more than happy to oblige for a bit. She grabbed her by the arm and yanked her into the bedroom, closing the door behind them.
