Memories that haunt Avery at McDonald's.
After Adam dropped her off at the Edens' home, Mira went straight into the shower. Once she was done, she changed into something decent. She then proceeded to the kitchen, where Phoenix handed her phone.
"You okay, baby girl?" Ray asked as soon as the phone was within her grasp.
The sound of her father's voice immediately made her feel better.
"I'm okay. I just went to the store and forgot my phone."
He paused for a while and Mira knew he wasn't convinced. He sighed. "Your mom wants you home soon. Oh and tell Aiden that he needs to work on his British accent. That is not how we sound."
Mira could hear her mother laughing in the background and Aiden leaned over. "Will do, sir." He gave Ray a mock salute through the phone which he couldn't see.
Mira giggled as she hung up. "You heard the man, I am being summoned back home by the mothership."
Aiden nodded and got up. "She's probably anxious to see that you're in one piece. Let me go grab a jersey." He went upstairs as Mira walked over to the kitchen window.
The rain was pretty heavy outside.
"Aiden, I'm going to call my dad to pick us up."
Avery stepped into the kitchen as if she had been lurking in the passageway. "I could take you home. I was heading out anyway." She walked over to the rack holding her car keys.
As she plucked it up, Mira bit her lip and glanced down. "I'm sorry about earlier. I don't know what possessed me."
Avery smirked. "Maybe one of your mom's demons," she offered.
Mira didn't smile back.
Avery went to her. "I'm sorry, you're probably really confused."
Mira made her way past Avery to the kitchen, thinking about what Adam had told her to ask Avery but decided to do it later. For now, she needed answers on something else. "Why did you do it, Avery?"
Avery gave her a lopsided grin. "Do what?"
Mira threw her hands up in expiration. "I don't know? Everything, I guess? Why did you and Adam stop being friends, why did you have my necklace? Why... do you always push me away?" Her voice got softer as she hugged herself. "One second you're teasing me and the next you're completely closed off."
Avery turned her back to Mira so she couldn't see her face. Mira bit the inside of her cheek, knowing she didn't mean what she had said. She was more frustrated with the fact she was confused and took it out on Avery.
"Do you remember Adam's older sister, Líla?"
Mira's head shot up.
Líla?
