Love Thy Neighbor ~ Part 1

Remember How This All Started?

Y/N'S POV
I saw that the McKellans invited me to their family reunion. I also saw that M'Dear's family came to town. I wanted to go over and introduce myself after I work out.
~Time Skip~
I walk up to M'Dear's door and knock.
??: "I'll get it!"
I heard a voice say. Not long after the door opens.
SHAKA'S POV
Woah 😳 she's pretty.
Shaka: "Uh hi. I'm Shaka."
??: "I'm......Y/n."
M'Dear: "Y/n! I see you've met Shaka."
She says walking towards us.
Y/n: "Hi M'Dear."
M'Dear: "She's the neighbor. Let her in."
I move out the way and when she's in I shut the door.
M'Dear: "Guys! This is our neighbor, Y/n."
Y/n: "Hi everybody."
Jade: "Omg I love your hair!"
Y/n: "Thanks!"
She goes and sits across from Jade and I sit beside her.
~Time Skip~
NOBODY'S POV
Jade was in the parlor, dancing I think. If she was idk what that dance was 😭 Anyways Ami and Mazzi walk in and see her dancing. They decided to join in. Jade notices and stops dancing.
Jade: "M'Dear said no children in the parlor."
Mazzi: "Then why are you in here?"
Jade: "I am not a child."
Y/n and Shaka walking in talking together after they had just made cupcakes.
Ami: "Well I am!"
She says picking up a pillow and throwing it at Jade. Jade turns around and bumps into Shaka causing the cupcakes to spill on her shirt.
Jade: "Someone's gonna die."
Everyone starts running away from Jade trashing the parlor. Y/n had stepped towards the doorway that was opposite of the kitchen while wincing and covering her eyes at the sound of glass being broken. Shaka knocks a chair over. The adults all come in from the doorway Y/n is standing at.
Moz: "Calm down. Hey!"
As he says that, Mazzi knocks over a glass vase. Y/n slowly uncovers her eyes and her mouth drops.
Jeb: "Enough!"
Y/n: "What did y'all do?!"
M'Dear gasps at the sight.
M'Dear: "Somebody better start praying before I forget I know Jesus!"
Cocoa: "M'Dear, we are so sorry."
Moz: "Don't worry we'll clean everything up."
He looks at his kids.
Moz: "Kids, clean everything up!"
They start cleaning as much as they can.
Jeb: "Aren't you gonna punish them?"
Cocoa: "Oh absolutely! What do you think is an appropriate punishment?"
Jeb: "Proverbs 13.24. 'Spare the rod and spoil the child."
Cocoa: "Oh no I was talking to the kids. As conscious parents, we believe it's more meaningful if they pick their own punishments."
M'Dear & Y/n: "WHAT?!"
M'Dear: "Who's in charge here?"
The kids, Moz, and Cocoa raise their hands. Y/n slaps her forehead.
Moz: "Mama, we encourage the kids to be in charge of their own destinies. We're new-school parents."
M'Dear: "And the jails are full of new-school kids who need their butts whipped."
Jeb: "Millie, it is none of our business. Remember, church starts at 8:00 am."
Mazzi: "We don't go to church. Dad says we belong to Bedside Baptist."
M'Dear and Jeb slowly turn around.
Y/n: "Yeahhhh ummmm....that's my cue to leave. See you at church tomorrow!"
And she quickly leaves the room.
Moz: "Uhh what? Heh. I think that's an-that's an old joke. Dave Chappelle? He's....he's hilarious."
He says laughing.
M'Dear: "Moz McKellan, come here!"
He walks to her.
M'Dear: "Now you are the son of a pastor. Folk have been praying for you since before God put you in this world. How dare you turn your back on him!"
Moz: "I haven't turned my back on him. I'm just trying to do something different."
Jeb: "Amelia, we can't tell Moz how to live his life, nor can we tell him how to raise his kids-"
M'Dear: "I can if he ain't doing it right!"
Moz: "Church at eight? We'll be there at seven."
~Next Day~
Y/N'S POV
I was excited to see Shaka today. We had a good time making cupcakes yesterday. I'm trying to make the best of the time I have with him before they go back to Seattle. My mom got called in to her job today, so she dropped me off at the front of the church. I see the McKellans walking in so I run up to them.
Y/n: "Hey everyone."
Shaka: "Hey everyone."
He says mocking me.
Y/n: "Hey Shaka."
I say pretending to be annoyed.
Shaka: "Hey Y/n."
We walk inside.
M'Dear: "Morning sir. Thank you so much."
Mazzi: "Woah! Look at all the black people!"
I laugh.
M'Dear: "What is this foolishness?"
Jade: "We live in Seattle. Don't blame Mazzi. He's just never seen this many of us in one place."
Y/n: "Isn't that saying something about Seattle?"
Shaka: "Yeah. That it lacks diversity."
He says laughing a bit.
M'Dear: "Oh I don't blame him."
She looks at Moz.
Maybelle: "Hey family and Y/n."
Shaka: "Who, her?"
He points at me.
Shaka: "I don't know who this is."
He says laughing. I playfully hit his side.
Jade: "Oh Aunt Maybelle. I love that hat!"
Maybelle: "Thank you baby! It's from the Shirley Caesar spring collection. The winter collection has polar bear fur."
M'Dear: "Polar bear? Oh, that's sharp."
Moz: "Church ladies love their hats."
Mazzi: "Ooh, look at that one."
He starts going to touch it. M'Dear slaps his hand.
Ava: " 🎶We're so blessed. We're so blessed. We're so blessed, When Jesus comes."
The choir repeats her.
Ava: "🎶When Jesus Comes🎶"
Rosalind: "HALLELUJAH! OH YES! THANK YOU!"
Shaka, Mazzi, and Ami lean on me.
Ami: "That lady's possessed! I'm out."
Y/n: "You guys really haven't been to church before."
I say laughing.
Y/n: "It's ok."
They lean up except for Ami who ran towards M'Dear.
M'Dear: "Sit. That's your cousin Rosalind. She got the Holy Ghost. It's a good thing!"
Rosalind: "YES LORD! YES SIR!"
She says falling back into the ushers' arms.
They look at her as they carry her out.
M'Dear: "Amen, Hallelujah."
Y/n: "Shaka. I gotta warn you. Church service lasts a long time, so if you fall asleep on me I'm taking a picture of you."
Shaka: "Really? How long could it be?"
