My mom left on a business trip for a month, so I'm staying with the McKellans for a while. I was downstairs with Jade and Ami at the table when Cocoa stands at the top of the stairs.
Cocoa: "Ladies an gentlemen, please welcome Beyoncé."
She struts down the stairs.
Ami: "Ooh. Mommy, you look pretty."
Cocoa: "Oh why thank you, Blue Ivy."
I laugh a little.
Cocoa: "I'm on my way to the DMV to get my new Georgia driver's license. I'll see you later."
She opens the door.
Cocoa: "Oh paparazzi! Paparazzi, no pictures, please! I said no pictures."
She closes the doors. Not even a minute later she comes back inside and her hair was all fuzzy.
Ami: "What happened?"
Cocoa: "The Georgia humidity. I walked out looking
'Crazy in Love' and came back just looking crazy."
Jade: "I wouldn't put a ring on it."
Moz opens the door.
Moz: "Shaka, Mazzi, Y/n, get out here.
Y/n: "Already here."
Moz: "I thought you were gonna do your hair."
Cocoa: "I thought you wanted to sleep in our bed tonight."
Moz: "I'm good he says closing the door."
Shaka and Mazzi come downstairs. Shaka comes and hugs me around my neck.
Shaka: "Hey Y/n. You're here early."
Y/n: "I just got here not long ago."
He lets go.
Shaka: "Ok. Come on, my dad wants us."
We get outside and out mouths drop.
Shaka: "Whoa."
Y/n: "Beautiful."
Mazzi: "I'm in love."
Go karts.
Shaka: "Your the best, Dad!"
Mazzi: "Yeah."
We go and hug him. There's four of them, a red, green, blue, and purple one. I go get in the purple one.
Ami: "Dude, the red one's mine."
Moz: "Slow down."
Ami: "The..red...one's..mine."
Moz: "Actually, I meant don't get excited...because the...red one's...mine."
Ami: "What about me?"
Moz: "Fine. You can borrow it, but be careful."
She gets in the red one.
Shaka: "You guys ready?"
Y/n: "Yeah."
Mazzi: "Let's roll."
We pull down the plastic parts on our helmets.
Cocoa: "Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Ami, what are you doing?"
Ami: "I'm about to smoke these fools."
We drive off. I keep drifting on the grass and Ami comes out too.

Shaka and I were chilling in the parlor. I was laying on my back in his lap on my phone. He was playing the switch.
M'Dear: "Kids, hurry up. We have to leave for Vacation Bible School in 15 minutes. I hope you been studying."
We hurry into the kitchen, and stand at the tables. We all whine. She turns back and we get silent and look away.
Cocoa: "You need to teach me how you do that."
M'Dear: "It's a gift, baby"
Yeah. A bad one.
Jade: "Why do we have to waste a week of our summer at church?"
M'Dear: "All kids need to learn the basic instructions before leaving Earth. B-I-B-L-E. That is an acronym for Bible."
Kids: "Ohhh."
Mazzi: "God really did think of everything."
Moz: "You know, I went to Vacation Bible School every summer growing up."
Ami: "Really? Was it fun?"
Moz: "Not nearly as much fun as watching y'all go!"
Then he laughs at us. M'Dear looks at him and he gets silent.
Cocoa: "Now that's some real black-girl magic."
M'Dear winks at her.

-At Church-
Jade: "Oh, M'Dear, you don't have to walk us all the way in."
M'Dear: "Shake, hold my purse."
Shaka: "Why am I holding her purse?"
Y/n: "Whenever she says that, something happens."
Shaka: "M'Dear never lets anyone touch her purse. Guys, what's happening?"
M'Dear: "Welcome to Vacation Bible School. I am your teacher, First Lady Amelia."
My mouth drops.
Jade: "Oh no. Please, no."
M'Dear: "Who is ready to play Jesus' favorite game?"
Jade: "What? I thought Jesus didn't play."
We go sit down.
Elvis: "I'm ready, First Lady, ma'am. I've been training mighty hard, and I'm finna beat you this time."
M'Dear: "'Finna' Elvis? 'Finna'?"
Elvis: " 'scuse me, ma'am. I meant 'fixing to.'"
M'Dear: "Elvis, my sweet, dear, butterbean-head Elvis. I have forgotten more of the Bible than you will ever know. That is why I am the undisputed Bible-verse...."
She starts to open her shirt.
M'Dear: "Champion of the world"
She reveals a wrestling belt for this game.
She clicks a button on her phone and there's a ding.
??: "Knockout!"
She laughs.
Y/n: "I don't know if I should be scared or relieved."
Jade: "The woman can't send a text, but she got a sound-effects app?"
Shaka: "Yeah. She thought emoji was a rap group."
M'Dear: "Will somebody please explain the rules to the newbies?"
Ava raises her hand.
Ava: "You pick a theme from a hat and quote a Bible verse that applies. If you get it right, you advance to the next round."
Shaka: "And if you get it wrong?"
Elvis: "You get blasted in the face with whipped cream. Defeat never tasted so sweet."
Jade: "What happens if we stump you?"
M'Dear: "Nothing. Because that means it's the end of days."
Then she laughs looking at all of us.
M'Dear: "But in the unlikely event that it does happen, yes, you can spray me."
Shaka: "Oh cool."
Jade: "I am so in. And I got an itchy spray finger."
M'Dear: "Mm. Oh. All right, then. Who is ready for a word whoopin'?"
Elvis: "I came to win."
M'Dear: "All right."
He goes and chooses a word from the hat.
Elvis: "Love"
M'Dear: "Easy."
Elvis: " 'Love each other as I have loved you.' "
M'Dear: "Excellent. Who else knows a verse about love? Shaka?"
He looks up.
Y/n: "Time for your fate buddy."
He stands up.
Shaka: " 'God is love'?"
He covers his face.
M'Dear: "Oh. Nice job, Shaka. You just proved that God takes care of babies and fools."
Shaka: "I'm not a baby."
Y/n: "Well then that makes you the fool."
He lightly hits me with his elbow.
M'Dear: "Jade. Granddaughter of a pastor, I'm sure you know a verse."
Jade: "Ok. Give me a second."
M'Dear: "Oh but you had ten. Five already gone. Four, three—"
Jade: " 'Love is not love which alters when an alteration finds or bends with the remover to remove.' "
Everyone starts clapping.
Y/n: "Except what you said was from Shakespeare."
M'Dear: "It was beautiful, but it was not biblical."
Jade: "But it's Shakespeare, which is just as profound."
M'Dear: "I like Shakespeare. To spray or not to spray? That is the question."
We all start chanting 'Spray her!'
Jade: "No!"
M'Dear: "The people have spoken!"
And with that she starts spraying her with whipped cream. Shaka and I start laughing.
