Shaka takes off running. M'Dear picks up her show and throws it. If hits Shaka right as he made it to the door. We all watch as it fly back to her hand. She blows on the tip of the shoe.
Ami: "I wanna be you when I grow up."
Mazzi: "Me too."
Y/n: "Huh?"
M'Dear: "Hmm."
She says sitting back down. I walk over to Shaka.
Y/n: "Get up weakling."
I say laughing and helping him up.
Shaka: "I'm good. Won't make that mistake again."
~Time Skip~
Ami was standing in the mirror with the locket on.
Jade: "That locket has an amazing history. Do you think I could have it one day?"
Ami: "What about me?"
Jade: "I'm older."
Ami: "I'm cuter."
M'Dear: "Sorry, girls. I've already promised it to your Aunt Grace. But when the time comes and you get ready to get married, you can take part in another family tradition. The jumping of the Williams family broom."
Jade: "Fannie Joe and Solomon's broom?"
M'Dear: "That very one."
Mazzi: "Cool."
Y/n: "Can we see it?"
M'Dear: "Come on, I'll show it to you."
We all run out.
M'Dear: "Ooh! Why are you all running in front of me when you don't even know where it is?"
M'Dear gets the broom and sits it on the table. As she does Moz and Cocoa come in. We all lean over it.
Cocoa: "Hey guys."
Moz: "Hi."
Mazzi: "Mom look, the Williams family broom."
Cocoa: "Oh. What's this?"
Jade: "M'Dear's been telling us about our family history. Our great-great-grandparents—"
Shaka: "You left out a great. Fannie Joe and Solomon got married by jumping this broom."
Cocoa: "Oh, wow. It's amazing you still have it."
M'Dear: "I know. The Columbus Museum is asking me to donate, but this belongs in this family."
Y/n: "Why are there different-colored ribbons on it?"
Moz: "Each couple ties on a ribbon that matches their wedding colors. It's actually pretty cool."
M'Dear: "This coral one is mine."
She says pointing to one.
Mazzi: "Mom and Dad, which one is yours?"
Moz: "We don't have one."
Ami: "Why not?"
Moz: "We eloped, so we didn't do all the family traditions, although now, I kinda wish we did."
M'Dear: "I tried to tell you, but nobody listens to me."
Cocoa pulls Moz away. We keep admiring the broom.
Moz: "Everybody stop. Your mama lost her teeth again!"
Cocoa was on one knee.
Cocoa: "No. Moses Deuteronomy McKellan, will you remarry me?"
Ami: "Say yes, Daddy."
Moz: "Yes, yes."
Jade: "I bet Fannie Joe and Solomon are smiling right now."
M'Dear: "I know they are."Dedicated to Rev. Shirley Jordan
