Chapter Twenty Eight

"Ayley, we need to get you to the hospital!" Eleanor was frantic.

I was speechless. Was I in labour?

"Ayley, come on!" She pulled on my coat sleeve.

I finally came to and stumbled over the snow and into my house. Eleanor was already on the phone.

"My friend's in labour!...Just...Yes...Okay...Seventeen...Twenty...No, I live in England, I don't have a license here...A friend...Eleanor...Yes...Alright...Okay, thank you...I will...Bye."

I was starting to sweat.

"What did they say?" I asked.

"They said to tell you to not push."

"That's it?"

"And to give you ice water." She said as she got a glass out of the cupboard.

"I'm hot."

"Here." She took my hat and coat off.

I sat on my kitchen chair uncomfortably. There was no way of getting comfortable. I tried every position. Nothing was comfortable.

"Drink." Eleanor handed me a glass of water with ice cubes bobbing about.

I took a sip.

"Can you call Niall?" I asked.

"Oh my gosh, yes, of course."

She pulled out her phone and dialled his number.

"Hey Niall...Yea...Where are you?...Are you sitting down?...Sit down...Ayley's in labour...Niall?...Hello?..."

"What's wrong?" I said.

"I don't know, he just stopped talking."

"He probably fainted."

"Oh, hello?...Hey...Yea...Did he faint?...Is he okay?...Okay...Make sure he's okay...Yes, she's fine...An ambulance is coming to get us because no one's here...Yes...I'll let you know how things go...Alright...Love you too...You too...Bye."

"Was that Louis?" I asked.

"Yea, he says Niall fainted."

"Told you." I smiled.

"Oh, they're here." She ran to the door and opened it.

A man and a woman ran into the kitchen.

"Hello, Ayley, my name is Chris, this is my partner Kim." The man said.

"Hi."

"Can you walk?" He asked.

"Yea."

"Alright, we'll help you to the ambulance."

"Thanks."

"Is your friend coming?" Kim asked as she and Chris helped me get up.

"Of course."

Eleanor smiled.

"What's your name again?" Chris asked her.

"Eleanor."

"Eleanor, could you get the door behind us?"

"Yes."

Chris and Kim helped me get into the ambulance. They laid me down on a stretcher and hooked up some monitors. I was starting to feel the pressure.

"These are to monitor your heart beat and the baby's heart beat." Chris explained.

"Okay."

"I'm just gonna check how far dilated you are." Kim said.
