"But if you disappear you'll still hear when my heart hits the ground"

"The color green represents growth and prosperity," Milo said. "Alistair compares your eyes to ivy and emeralds. Green also represents hope for a better future. It makes sense that he would want that, seeing that he escaped prison and all."
"That's true," Bella said, biting on the cap of her pen.
"Did he ever mention the color green to you?"
Bella shook her head, "No...we discussed his paintings at one point. He mentioned how he sees people as different colors, almost like their aura."
"I remember him discussing that in another poem," Milo said with a nod. "He thought of himself as yellow. Yellow represents confidence, imagination, wisdom, and intuition. Did he ever say what color you were to him?"
"Blue," Bella answered instantly. "Loyalty, security, logic, authority, and sadness."
Milo picked up the poem and pursed his lips, "Yellow and blue make green."
Letting out a breath, Bella closed her eyes, "Jesus."
She sat back in her seat as Milo sat on top of her desk. He glanced down at the poem before handing it back over to her. They had been studying it for months, rearranging words and letters and still coming up empty. Both of them felt drained and frustrated.
"We'll get it soon," Milo said. He looked down at Bella's frowning face before tapping the top of her hand with his thumb. She looked up as Milo grinned at her. "Keep your head up, young doctor. We'll figure it out soon."
Bella gave a half smile before her eyes trailed over, watching as Spencer walked into the room. His eyes set on Milo, instant jealousy taking over his entire body. He walked over to his desk, setting down his satchel while still eyeing Milo.
Milo hopped off of Bella's desk and shoved his hands into his pockets, "Maybe we can meet up later? We can discuss this more and I can try to compare it to some of Alistair's other poems."
"That would be nice-" Bella managed to push out before being interrupted suddenly.
"We have a case," Spencer said before his eyes flicked over to Milo. "She's going to be busy."
Milo raised his eyebrows, "Ok. Good luck on your case, Bella. I'll see you around."
"See you," Bella nodded before Milo turned on his heel, making his way out and heading back over to the linguistics department. Turning in her chair, Bella looked over at Spencer and scoffed. "Did you have to be so rude?"
"We have a case," Spencer repeated, ignoring what she said. "6 women found dead, each missing a limb. It's local so you don't have to worry about straying too far from Milo."
