"And all the sinners saints"

The snow fell to the ground as light as a feather. It covered the ground like a thin blanket, as if it was giving a gentle taste before the inevitable blizzard that would hit soon. People walked carefully, not wanting to slip on hidden patches of ice. Hot cups of coffee sat in people's hands, couples locking arms as their cold breath hit the frigid air.

Bella carried her purse, her other hand shoved into the pocket of her black pea coat. She was wearing a ruby red scarf, her chapped lips barely touching it as she longed to bury her face in it to hide from the cold air. Not even the hot dinner she just had at Rory's was enough to keep her warm.

She turned down a small alley, the same one she would walk down each time she went to Aurora's apartment. It was the only way she could get to her car without having to walk around the entire block.

Grabbing her cell phone out of her purse, she looked at her most recent text from Spencer. She grinned to herself, already excited to get home.

SPENCER: I made a cake without burning it! Success! When will you be home?

BELLA: About 20-30 minutes, just left Aurora's. SAVE SOME FOR ME!

SPENCER: Will do! I rented a movie, want to watch?

BELLA: Yeah! That's the beauty of Fridays, we can stay up late doing whatever we want...

SPENCER: Like watching a second movie?

BELLA: I wish you could see me slapping my forehead right now.

SPENCER: Don't hurt yourself! Hurry home!

BELLA: Just walking to the car right now, talk soon.

SPENCER: Be safe, I love you <3

BELLA: I love you too, handsome.

She shut her phone off, tossing it back into her purse. Letting out a soft breath, Bella watched it hit the air then disappear. She squinted against the snow falling in her eyes, seeing a tall man walking towards her. He was dressed in all black, his head down with his hood up, and his hands shoved into his pockets.

Bella kept her distance, staring straight ahead and not looking over at the man. She made sure she was ready to grab the pepper spray in her purse if the time came.

As she continued to walk, the man started to walk closer and closer towards her. He slowly looked up, Bella making out that his eyes were glued directly on her. Bella grabbed her bag tightly.

"Hey," the man said to her, coming closer.

"Listen, mister, I have pepper spray!" Bella threatened, opening up her purse.
