"Just A Kiss"

You could feel your pulse racing, and your heart beat increase as you sped in the runned down jeep. You had hijacked it from the sketchy guys that were now chasing after you, shooting off dozens of rounds. You hunched down in your seat as low as you could, to avoid getting shot at, as the bullets began to shatter the back windshield. "MAC I COULD REALLY USE ONE OF YOUR FANCY INVENTIONS RIGHT ABOUT NOW!" You shouted at the man in the back seat, taking your rifle, you tried to reach around and fire back at those assholes while trying to drive at the same time. Mac continued to fiddle with something in the back as he yelled back "I'M TRYING TO GO AS FAST AS I CAN!" In the next few seconds you weren't sure what exactly he made but when he chucked it out the window, the jeep behind you guys was suddenly not a problem anymore.

As you guys approached your exfil, you both got out of the jeep when the only option was walking. You both began walking the five mile trek through the woods as you made sure the bioweapon you guys had stole was securely in Macs messenger bag. "This is gonna be fun. Can't wait to be bit by who knows what kind of bugs out here." You were expecting for Mac to try to tell you some facts about the type of bugs that were found in the part of Africa you guys were in, but that wasn't the case.

"So are we ever going to talk about that kiss?" Hearing him say this caught you off guard. Then you thought back to that night, three nights ago. You guys had just gotten back from a mission that was very touch and go there for a while. You both didn't think you'd make it out alive, so that night on his terrace you two were sharing a beer, just the two of you. One minute you were both admiring the full moon in the night sky with the million stars surrounding it, then the next you were getting lost in eachothers eyes, it wasn't long before his lips were pressed against yours. You remember pulling away after some time had passed, and you couldn't have been more awkward afterwards. All you could do was stumble on your words as you mentioned needing to go home, then you were gone. This was the most time you guys had been alone together since then. You wished the comms hadn't gone offline cause then he wouldn't have brought this up.

"We don't need to talk about it Mac, it was just a kiss, we got caught up in the moment, it happened so let's just move on okay." Looking over at Mac, you instantly had regretted what you had said, he looked hurt by your words. Mac slightly scoffed in irritation as he shook his head "Just a kiss, yeah ok. Whatever you say, God forbid it should be more than that and actually that we have feelings for eachother. We wouldn't want that now." He said, his voice laced with sarcasm.

You bit on your bottom lip, knowing you had really gotten to him. Truth is you lied, you never thought you had feelings for Mac or liked him even the slightest but, that kiss changed things. You felt so much in the span of just a few seconds, and you wanted to tell him that but, you were scared. Working and dating never mixed well, you had tried that before and it crashed and burned. Mac was your friend, you didn't want to screw that up.

"Just a shot in the dark that you just might

Later that night you were walking out to your car after your debrief with Matty, getting ready to get into your car until you heard your name. Turning around you saw Mac jogging in your direction. You felt your palms getting sweaty, and your heart beat racing. When he reached you he was slightly out of breath but he didn't let that stop him from talking. "Look me in the eyes and tell me, tell me you felt nothing in that kiss. If you can do that, I will let it go and keep this between us strictly platonic."

You went to open your mouth to lie but you were tired of that option. So you took a deep breath before answering truthfully "I did feel something, but I-" Mac interrupted you finishing "No, please no buts. If you felt something, why did you lie earlier. Y/n, I've had feelings for you for awhile and even if the other night was the first time you experienced them you still did. So why can't we give this a try?"

You weren't sure why but you felt your eyes start to gloss over, and a knot form in the back of your throat "I'm s-scared." Your voice cracked, as a few tears escaped your eyes. Mac frowned, seeing you upset. He walked over to you and held your face in his hands, wiping the tears away with his thumb. "Why? Are you scared of me?"  His voice softened with concern. You quickly shook your head "No of course not, but, this could affect our performance in the field and that's dangerous. I've tried dating someone I work with before and it didn't end well. It's one thing to lose a friend if something were to happen to you, but losing someone who I could see myself falling in love with in the future, that would break me."

Mac took your words in and slowly started to speak "Y/n I get where your coming from, but life isn't worth living if we're too afraid to live it. It's about taking risks, like for example. When I have to build something that is going to get us out of a dangerous situation, there's never a guarantee that it will work, and that scares me but it's something I have to risk to save us. Now I'm not saying that by you not taking this risk means people are gonna die, but I'd sure as hell be a happy man if you did. I'm okay if you want to take this slow and steady but at least give it a chance. I guess it just depends on how bad you want this, us." You let out a shaky breath and whispered "I want you."

Mac busted into a grin "Well then, would it be okay if I at least asked for a kiss goodnight?" You couldn't help but smile back, his was just contagious. "Yes." You then felt his warm lips on yours yet again, and your whole body melted, feeling a thousand goosebumps all over. After a moment he pulled away and rested his forehead against yours "I can't wait for us to see where this can go."

Smiling up at him you said "Me too, and to think this all started with just a kiss."
