Song: "Heart on my Sleeve" By: Mary Lambert

.......

"Let me be your porch light
Your favorite star on the best night
A good yell, a good fight (let me be)
Let me be your night walk
Locked eyes in the midday sunspark
Good love, your whole life (let me be)

One hand, finding one hand
Two hearts making amends
With themselves at their end
Cause I'm not sure who I was before
But the day I saw you at your door
You opened up the things I shut, the things I shut."

.......

You drive up the stretched out driveway behind that familiar silver truck, and park your car before stepping out. You notice the hood is propped up, which means that blonde haired man is tinkering with something in his engine.

"Mac, is that you?" You ask as you begin to walk up to the front of the truck, soon you saw a face peek around the side of the hood and that recognizable grin was shown.

"Hey! You made it! Everyone else is out back, I'm just trying to fix the radiator on my truck. There's beer in the fridge."

"Okay cool, do you want me to bring you out one?" You asked, and once he agreed you walked into his house and made your way to the kitchen.

You've been working at the Phoenix for a few months now and the team was as welcoming as you had hoped for if not more. You'd be lying to yourself if you said you didn't find Mac attractive, hell you had even fallen for him despite your best efforts to keep that from happening. It was never going to happen though, Mac and you were just friends and you were pretty sure he had no feelings for you.

As you pulled out a beer for Mac, you were just about to pull out a second one when you heard a phone ringing nearby. So you looked around to try and follow the sound, then you spotted it. Mac's phone on the kitchen island, you were taken back when you saw who was calling him.

Nikki, the same woman who almost got him killed, you had heard the stories from Jack. You bit hard on your bottom lip as your thoughts spiraled. Why was she calling him? Isn't she still at the CIA? You got distracted and without grabbing your beer you walked outside to where Mac was.

"Here." You said flatly as you handed him the cold glass bottle. He noticed your mood change and raised an eyebrow at you.

"Thanks, what's up with you? You okay? Where's your beer?"

"Why is Nikki calling you?" You could tell he was taken back so you cautiously proceeded. "I heard your phone ringing, I wasn't trying to snoop I swear but, your phone was facing up and I just saw it. Mac, what the hell man? I've heard the stories of what she put you through, you got shot because of her!" You suddenly grew angry, your feelings taking over, maybe even jealousy being a factor.

"Whoa calm down, it's not that serious. I mean it's not like we're back together but, recently she reached out to me. She left the CIA, and she wants to start over. We had lunch the other day and things went well, we hashed things out and we've been talking since. I think for now we are just trying to rebuild a friendship at least and restore trust. Why are you so upset?" He asked as he casually took a sip of his beer.

You shook your head in disbelief, you knew you shouldn't be this upset, he wasn't yours for her to take from you, but somehow you felt casted aside. Mac was never yours and he never will be. They have history, she's familiar and she knows him better than you do for sure.
