I woke up to the sound of chirping birds. I yawned and slowly opened my eyes. I sat up and sighed and that's when something caught my eye. There was a piece of paper folded up on the floor next to my door. I walked over and picked it up.
To Dahlia from Luke, was written on the top in very messy handwriting. I unfolded the piece of paper and read it.
Hi. So I know you're still mad at us and what we did wasn't okay, but we really want to make it up to you. Please come to the studio at 10:00.
- Luke
I scoffed. What can three ghosts possibly do to make it up to me? I thought. I wasn't done being mad at them, but I decided to go anyway. After I got dressed, I went downstairs. My uncle was not a morning person at all, so he slept in until at least 10:30 on the weekend. I tip-toed, careful not to make any noise and wake him up.
I walked out the front door. I pulled open the studio doors to find the boys doing jazz hands and singing.
"We're sorry, so sorry. We're super-duper crazy stupid sorry", they sang.
"In case you missed it, we're really sorry.", Reggie said smiling.
"Yeah, I...I got that part", I replied, not impressed.
"We've been here for like three hours", Alex said.
"We almost sang to your aunt", Luke added.
"Yeah, she comes in here a lot. It's actually really sweet", Reggie chimed in.
"But, Dahlia, it wasn't okay that we flaked on the dance last night. We know we let you down.", Luke said.
"Yeah and none of us wanted to disappoint you.", Alex said. "You're the best thing that's happened to us since we became ghosts."
"So, in hopes that you'll rejoin the band,", Luke started holding out a flyer. "We booked a new gig."
"A mega important, life-changing gig", Reggie added.
I looked down at the flyer. "Oh, okay, check it out. Tons of managers go here to listen to new bands. All we gotta do is blow them all away, and we're living the dream."
"So this means a lot to you, huh?", I asked, looking at Luke. "Kind of how playing in front of my entire school meant a lot to me."
"Sounds like sarcasm. I'm starting to think our plan isn't working.", Reggie whispered to Alex.
"Look we know we messed up", Alex started.
"But we need you in the band", Luke finished.
"Of course you do", I said. "Because without me, no one can see you guys playing. You know, I thought the music we were writing was special, but you don't even seem to care."
"I do care.", Luke said, raising his voice. "Our band has a real chance at greatness. I'm not gonna let that get away from us again."
"Uh-huh. Right. So then why did you bail on me to go to some random club?", I asked. "I'll tell you why. 'Cause there's only one you care about, and that's yourself." I stormed out of the studio.
I was mad. Mad that they didn't seem to get it. Mad that they thought everything was going to be okay after they sang one stupid song. The worst part was, I knew I couldn't stay mad at them for very long.

FanfictionEver since her mom died, Dahlia hasn't been able to play any music, let alone look at it. Who knew that it would take three dead dudes from a 90s rock band to bring her out of her shell. (I do not own the JATP characters)
