A rainy midnight walk

Dream, Karl, Sapnap, and George played a few more rounds of hide and seek. All of them ended up being able to spend the night a Dream's house.

They had watched a movie and hung around until around midnight. All of them got along really well and it felt like they had been friends with George forever.

"We should go for a walk."

Sapnap suggested.

"Dude it's cold out and it's dark too."

Karl said while flipping through some of Dream's comic books.

Dream was playing on his PC with George next to him.

"You know what? I think that's a great idea Sapnap."

Dream said turning towards the door.

"Yeah, I guess that could be fun."

George said walking with Dream out of the room. Sapnap and Karl followed.

Outside it wasn't actually as cold as they'd thought. It had been a decently warm winter with no snow. I guess it doesn't really snow in Florida anyways.

They all walked down the street together. The streetlights were light up just giving them enough light to see. The sun was already completely set and the stars were barely visible since it was very cloudy out.

Most of the walk was just them all laughing together and having a good time. George couldn't help but notice that Dream was a little quiet though.

"Hey Karl, I'll race you to the end of the block!"

Sapnap yelled running ahead of the group.

"Hey, you just got a head start!"

Karl shouted as he chased after Sapnap.

Dream and George stayed there walking, still not saying a word. Dream didn't even smile at Sapnap and Karl acting like foolish children out on the street.

"Dream are... are you okay?"

George said after a while.

"Yeah of course, why do you ask?"

Dream asked slightly lifting his head to look back at George.

"Ummm I don't know, you've just been very quiet for the whole walk."

George replied looking ahead and up the street where you could see Sapnap and Karl still running after each other.

"Yeah I'm fine."

Dream said in an unenthusiastic manner.

George scoffed slightly and looked back at the taller boy.

"Whenever someone says they're fine they never actually mean it. I can tell something is bugging you."

Dream was silent and looked ahead with his eyes directed near his feet. He was kicking a small rock while he walked.

"You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to. I get it."

George said carefully.

"No, no, it's just...well I guess you could say I haven't been doing the greatest in school and it's been worrying me a bit."

"It's just...I don't know...it's been really hard lately."

Dream said still looking ahead

"I get it, even though my grades have always been decent, I've had a lack of motivation lately."

George told him.

"It hurts and...well I guess it's not just school but it's the pressure that comes with it. To add to it all I feel like a sore thumb in my class. I'm never my true self at my school because I feel like people's judgement is so overwhelming sometimes."

Dream explained.

George nodded and the boys kept on walking, Sapnap and Karl no longer in sight.

Small drops of water fell from the sky, and soon enough it started to rain gently.

"I like it when it rains."

George said walking next to Dream.

"Why? It doesn't seem like much fun."

Dream said genuinely wanting an answer.

"Well..."

George paused.

"It's comforting."

He explained.

Dream looked up at the sky while the raindrops landed on his face.

"It's kind of nice."

"When it rains no one can see you cry."

Dream said with his head up letting the rain land on him.

George thought about what Dream had said.

Dream looked down at George with a gentle smile framed on his face. The rain rolled down his cheeks.

"It's hard but..."

George took a deep breath.

"You'll get through it. We all do."

He finished.

Sapnap and Karl were on their way running back.

"Oh, your hoodie Dream!"

George said after a moment.

"What about it?"

Dream asked.

"I got it all wet!"

George said.

"It's fine, don't worry about it. I'd rather you be wearing that then just a t-shirt."

Dream said looking over at the shorter friend.

"It's starting to rain a lot more we need to head back."

Sapnap said out of breath.

They all turned around and started to head back to Dream's place.

George couldn't get Dream's words out of his head.

"When it rains no one can see you cry."

It reminded him of the sadness he hid behind his smile. The sadness that Dream kept to himself.
He was clearly going through a lot, and George wanted to help him.
