✧ ೃ༄*ੈ✩Bellamy stood at the edge of the riverbank, the radio tightly in his grasp. He almost threw the damn thing in when he hesitated, a thought stopping him.
What if he could trust Thena?
Thena the beautiful girl who has been nothing but kind to him. Thena who tried to understand him and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Thena who protected his secret. Thena who looked towards the good in him when even he couldn't find it himself from how minuscule it was—if there was even left at all.
She brought out the best in him. He wanted to be the best for her.
She trusted him; someone who doesn't deserve anyone's trust.
Why couldn't he trust her? Someone who deserved all the trust?
He looked at the radio in his hand, slowly lowering it down.
"You are really making it worse for yourself."
Bellamy abruptly turned around to see Thena calmly standing over, a couple of meters away from him. They stood apart, gazing at one another.
Thena had to stay calm, especially when confronting someone who is so close to the edge. Something she learned from her time with Murphy.
"Yeah well, I tend to do that a lot."
"I'm glad you know."
They lapsed into silence once more, not really knowing what to say.
"Bellamy." He looked up at her. "Give me the radio," Thena said.
"They locked my sister up. They imprisoned countless kids and shipped them off in a place they weren't sure they'd survive. They've murdered parents who just wanted the best for their children," Bellamy spoke solemnly. "Why do you want to help them so much? They sure as hell don't deserve your help."
"Everyone deserves help," Thena replied softly.
"That's an extremely naive way of thinking."
"Maybe," she paused. "But it's better to see things brightly than to live in the dark."
Bellamy thought about it deeply, "I disagree. It's better to expect the worst. Then, you won't be disappointed in the outcome."
Thena bit her lip and her heart ached at how hardened Bellamy was from his life, his experience. He doesn't deserve that. Nobody does.
"Maybe... maybe you're right. But shouldn't we at least take the chance to make the outcome the best that we can when we can?" she spoke softly.
"You have the chance to do that, Bellamy." She continued. "That radio can do that. Those innocent families up there can live a better life here. No rationing, no one-child laws, no death penalties. No more Octavias hiding under the floor."
