✧ ೃ༄*ੈ✩The group continued on, trudging silently. Finn suddenly stopped, the group following suit.
In front of him were decayed carcasses speared through by spikes sticking from the ground. Everyone looked on with horror and fear. Thena once again felt the need to throw up, turning paler by the second.
Bellamy subconsciously pulled the girl closer to him, not taking his eyes off what's in front.
"I don't speak grounder, but I'm pretty sure this means 'keep out'."
Thena couldn't rip her gaze from it as much as she wanted to. She stared at the very badly decayed bodies.
They had arrived just a month ago. Why were the bodies so... old?
They either used long-dead bodies or... these have been here longer than they have. And if so, why?
Were they not the only other group here?
Who else is the enemy of grounders?
Bellamy noticed her increasing fear and anxiety. He slipped his hand in hers, giving it a tight but comforting squeeze. Thena felt a little knot in her chest release. She gave him a thankful look.
People started to head back, being too spooked out. Others hesitated.
Honestly, she too wanted to chicken out. From having a friend be impaled, nearly getting eaten by a mutated cat, and almost melting from a yellow cloud, she wasn't down to nearly dying again.
But as one of the only adults in the camp, the other being a manchild (though slowly maturing), she felt that she had the responsibility to take care of them.
Bellamy let go of her hand. "Go back if you want. My sister, my responsibility."
More people then started to leave, Bellamy looked at Thena who nodded at him in respect.
"You can go back too. I created this mess. I'll fix it."
Thena patted his shoulder gently, "Thank you, for taking responsibility. But I want to help. Down here, every life matters, remember?"
"But you could lose your life."
"And Octavia can lose hers."
Bellamy gazed at her with an indiscernible expression. He pulled her into a quick hug, mumbling a thank you.
He then continued to trudge forward, but not without once more slipping his hand in hers, pulling her to walk close to him.
"I'd walk through hell to find her." From behind her, she heard Jasper determinedly say to Finn.
"I'm pretty sure we just did."
