They were gone now. They'd left for Mexico and Margo was left in the loft looking around at all of the chaos that still remained on the floor. She knew that they'd said goodbye. That she'd probably never see Derek again. That his words were final and there'd be no love to get them through the week because love no matter how strong could not save a life. It left darkness that could not be overcome by any form of light.
It didn't seem very fair; they'd only just managed to make things better. They'd only just managed to get over Aiden's death and they'd made the promise that they were going to leave and be happy. She'd meant what she'd said when she told him that she couldn't make plans for a future that didn't involve him. Even if they weren't together romantically, even if they fell in love with other people, they would always be together. They'd always be friends because they'd been together since they were children and the mere thought of not being together and losing him was so disastrous that it shattered her heart.
Even in times when she'd wanted him far away: when she found out that he was a werewolf and when Paige had died and when he'd tried to kill Lydia.... even then she needed him. She needed him close to her.
Taking in a deep breath she looked around the loft which was decorated with a thousand bulbs all varying lengths as they hung from the ceiling. Swallowing the weight that was burning inside of her she reached up and began to pull them all down.
Hearing the sound of music playing, she regretfully pulled her head away from the lights turning around to look at Derek although when she did her body jumped slightly. He was right in front of her. She hadn't even heard him move he was that quiet. She wondered if that was how everyone felt when she moved so quickly and quietly.
"Come on then," he mused holding out his hand.
"Come on what?"
"Well, you're the one with your head in those silly books," she narrowed her eyes at the tease but her face was still filled with such a pure joy that it was hard to take seriously, "I believe this is the part where we dance."
"I don't know how to dance," she countered.
"I'll teach you."
"How do you know how to dance?" She asked, and he offered a shrug.
"You don't tell me your name and I won't tell you how I learnt to dance," he mused and she glared at him humourlessly before she took his hand. "Now put your hands here," he ordered and she did as told, "okay so one step back, and then diagonal, and then to the side and back to the front and back to the side again..."
"Oh, so it's like a little square!"
He chuckled at the exclamation as she lifted her eyes from the floor so that she could meet his. Both of their smiles were radiant and buoyant and you wouldn't think there was a single thing wrong with the world upon looking at them. "Yes, that's the point," he mused meeting her eyes and for a moment they faltered.
Not allowing there to be a single moment wasted, Derek nudged his foot out throwing her off balance and she yelped out fo shock clutching onto him tightly whilst he dipped her to the side. As they were bent rather awkwardly she looked at him horrified whilst he began to laugh, "you absolute prick," she breathed out bursting out into laughter herself and he slowly pulled her back up, "that was bloody terrifying! Could've died!" She said through her laughter and he laughed back.
"You should have been paying attention."
"Why on earth would I have been paying attention? People don't expect people to do that you know," she reminded and he grinned innocently as she placed her hands on his arms looking up at him with the largest happiest smile in the world. He loved her smile.
