Ian's POV:-Today's my first day at National hospital. I reached there and had a meeting with hospital Dean in the morning. Then I completed all my paper work. I then called all of the pediatrics department in the conference room. People started coming one by one and 30 minutes later all of my department was gathered in the room. I was standing behind the head chair and observed everyone keenly.
"Is everyone here?" I asked.
"A second year resident Edward isn't here yet" Max said.
"Anyone knows where is he?" I asked.
"He was sleeping in the on call room" another resident said whom I recognised immediately. Brown hairs, blue eyes but he was looking much mature than 6 years ago, it was Dave, the medical student who was taking care of dad.
"For how long is he on call?" I asked.
"He isn't on call, he has a regular day"
"Okay" I said.
"What was the time when you all got the message to be here?" I asked looking at everyone.
"Almost 30 minutes ago" one of the residents said and everyone else complied with him.
"Then why did it take you 30 minutes to get here?" I asked sternly.
"We were working and we had to finish our proposed task before we had to get here" one of the residents said.
I asked everyone for there introductions and what they were doing and suddenly there was a knock on the door and a young resident entered.
"What's your name?" I asked
"Edward" he said.
"Where were you Edward?"
"I was tending a patient" he said hesitantly.
"What were you doing exactly?"
" History and physical examination of the patient" he said.
"Call the nurse, who was with you" I said and his expressions changed.
"I was alone" he said
"Okay. Take me to your patient then" I said and he became as pale as a ghost.
"I'm so sorry sir. I was sleeping and didn't checked my pager" he said looking at the floor.
"You were sleeping that you ignored the pager! What if there was an emergency?" I said
"It won't happen again. I'll be more alert next time sir" he said
"There will be no next time" I said.
"What? My career would be ruined. I'm a second year resident, all of my hard work would be wasted" he exasperated.
"Well if you are that hard working it wouldn't have happened so, get out of here" I said.
He left slamming the door.
"So everyone I want to say that we are doctors and our first priority are our patients and i do not and will not tolerate any mistake in this matter.
I have been introduced to all of you and I'm now appointing consultant Dr Sheila Castro as incharge of monitoring your duties. All of your duties will be assigned by her. And Dr Dave Park will be incharge of all the nurses and staff members. Dr Max Goodwin and i will assign the tasks to the senior residents Dr Helen Sharpe, Dr Eric Foreman and Dr Hanaan Adil. These senior residents will have 3 second year residents each and 5 interns each under their supervision. They will teach you assign you patients and you will do as they say. New interns will join next weak and I want you to make your teams immediately. If anyone has any questions please ask if not then you can go. Thank you" I finished.
