A/N: Okay, so school’s opening and I won’t have any access to the internet unless it’s for projects so this is my last chapter until school closes for Easter. I’m sorry but it has to be done but during those months I will be working on chapters so I’ll just have to post them.
Chapter 8: Spit Take
~Shae’s POV~
I woke up in my bed, memories from yesterday came back to me immediately. Liam and Zayn were going to audition on The XFactor but in different places, on different days. I was going with both of them to support and congratulate them because I knew both of them would get through this no matter what the judges throw at them.
After I talked with Zayn, we had stayed up and watched, believe it or not, Sherk because that was one of my favourite Disney movies and no one could ever change my mind. When Aidan came home, he and Zayn played a whole set of video games as I sat and watched them, and every time Aidan won, Zayn would get up and chuck the controllers at the TV. He made me laugh the whole time.
I rolled out of bed and went straight to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, took a hot shower, combed my hair and pulled it into a ponytail. I pulled on a sports bra, a loose top and a pair of loose pants. I pulled on a pair of sneakers and went down stairs for a small breakfast. As soon as I was done the doorbell rang, I opened the door to see Liam standing there.
“You ready to go?” he asked and I nodded. We walked outside into the cool early morning air. We ran six miles, three miles up and then three back. By the time we were done, my legs were burning and I was breathing kind of hard. I looked at Liam to see sweat running down his face. I checked the time on my watch to see that we made the run in forty-five. That’s ten minutes less than the last time we ran.
If you’re confused then I’ll explain. Liam used to do track and I used to run with him to practice and even though he doesn’t do that sport anymore because he’s focusing on his singing career, we still run because, well… we enjoy it, strange enough. We high-fived and as I jogged back home I yelled to Liam,” Pick you up in a half hour.” I heard him say something back but I just took it as an okay.
I went straight to my room on arrival to my flat and went straight for the shower. I cleaned off all the sweat. Wrapped in my towel, I rubbed the fog or frost off the mirror and applied my usual make-up. I walked to my closet and found a pair of jeans and a tan-ish brown top with a black print on it, I think it’s a bird, not to sure. After I changed, I pulled on a pair of brown wedges, picked up my bag and car keys and ran out the while shouting a goodbye to my mum and Aidan.
I pulled up in front of Liam’s and honked the horn twice and two seconds later he was out the door and in the car. I did the same with Zayn and he three of us were now going straight to school. During the quiet but not awkward car drive I realized that no one in school knew about Zayn and I. The thing is that Zayn and I, we’re official, he asked me to be his girlfriend on our date. Yes, I know it was sudden but he said the only reason asked now was because he’d be leaving soon and to tell you the truth, I didn’t mind that it seemed so sudden. To outsiders it might seem strange and not right but to me, it couldn’t be more perfect.
As I pulled into the car-park for year twelve students, I turned to open my door but Zayn was already there. I smiled at this as he closed the door, he placed his arm around my shoulder and I put mine around his waist. I loved how our bodies fit perfectly together. I loved that I felt so at ease around him and the stares that people were giving didn’t bother me at all. Yes, people were staring at us, we never act this close but that changed. I noticed Liam went to talk to Chelsea. I felt happy with my life.
The day flew by fast and it was now lunch. Our relationship got out and there was gossip going around. Zach tried talking with me but he just wasted his time by doing so. I had no reason to hear what was coming out of his mouth and I don’t think I ever will again. As I started to steal some of Zayn’s lunch when he was looking, Liam sat down on my left. “You’ll never guess who called,” Liam said to me. I raised my left eyebrow as a sign to show that I’m confused. I motioned with my hands for him to continue then I opened my bottle of water and started to drink.
“Shannon,” he said and when that one word came out of his mouth, the water in mine flew out. I did a spit take. The good thing was that the people who got wet, it was only little drops so no one was going to be yelling at me.
“You’re joking, right?” I said with a smile on my face but when I saw his facial expression I knew he wasn’t lying. “What did she want?”
“She said, and I quote ‘Uh hi Liam for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking about us and how we ended things and I wanted to apologize and I also wanted to know if you’d like to hang out sometime. I know this is strange but I miss you’ and well me being me told her what I said the last time I saw her which was to stay out of my life,” he said.
I sighed and shook my head. Shannon is Liam’s ex. They broke up a year ago and the girl blames me. She walked up to Liam one day and told him that I was using him and he shouldn’t be friends with me but when he was with her, I hardly ever got to see Liam. She kept him away from me. She made him choose between their relationship and our friendship and me being me, had a conversation with Liam about a situation like this and he promised me that if that ever happened he’d choose me. He kept his promise because on that day, they split. Never spoke to each other again, that is until today.
“She probably heard about you going back and thought it was a one way ticket to fame,” I said looking him in the eyes. He looked upset and it hurt to see him like that. “Buuttt… on a happier note, I heard that Dani would be a backup dancer on XFactor so that’s great, right,” and as I said that his eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas day. We continued with lunch and then our afternoon classes.

After school Liam, Zayn, Chelsea, Alyssa and Diana came back to my flat where we did some homework and studied a bit. When were finished, we watched some movies. Shrek, Toy Story and Paranormal Activity. Yes, we watched a horror and yes, we saved it for last. I was creeped out by the end of the movie and when everyone left, the house was silent. Aidan was asleep and mum was at the office late.
I got ready for bed but after lying in my dark room with my headphones jammed in my ears for more than a half hour sleep never came and it wouldn’t. I got up with my duvet still wrapped around my body for warmth and crept over to Aidan’s room. I slowly opened his door and crawled into his bed.
“Shae?” he mumbled. He turned to face in my direction where I sat on his bed.
“Is it okay if I stay with you tonight?” I asked. I heard him chuckle softly but he opened up his arms and I crawled into them. I looked at the clock on his night stand to see that it was midnight. I smiled and turned to my brother. “Happy Birthday,” I whispered.
He smiled,” Thanks sis,” he replied. I snuggled into my brother’s arms feeling safe. I wish nothing would change, that my fairytale life stayed just like this. I always wanted a fairytale but doesn’t everyone?
My eyelids got heavier as sleep took me under its wings. I felt at home.
