"Okay, here we are!" Curt announced as he opened the door.

"Whoa. Is that a kotatsu?" I asked him.

"Yep. My house has a sort of...Japanese style." Curt nodded.

I walked right to the kotatsu. I put my feet under it. SO WARM! I laid down. Curt's house was nice and cool from the A/C and the kotatsu was the place to keep you warm if you get too cold. I liked his house.

"Would you like some tea?" Curt asked.

"Yes, please." I responded.

When Curt went to make tea, he turned on the TV and the news came on. I didn't really watch. I was too "busy" to look at the TV. After 30 seconds, I got up and started to watch what was going on in today's society.

"TODAY THERE WAS A BALLOON IN THE SKY WITH A PRESENT ATTACHED TO IT. A BOY NAMED ALEX SHOT IT DOWN WITH A SLINGSHOT. TO HIS SURPRISE, A PIECE OF RARE BALLOON FURNITURE WAS FOUND. ALEX KINDLY DONATED TO SOMEONE WHO HE JUST HAD MET."

Donated? Alex was on the news? What? I went up to the window to take a look outside. Who did he give the present to? I didn't even hear the popping of a balloon!

"Ah, that mischievous boy. He usually comes here and we talk around the kotatsu." Curt said as he gave me my tea. "Be careful, it's hot."

"Thank you." I smiled.

There was something else on the news.

"A RARE SIGHTING HAS BEEN FOUND. MUSEUM OWNER, BLATHERS, HAD FOUND A PIECE OF A T-REX FOSSIL. IT IS NOW IN DISPLAY AT THE MUSEUM. BLATHERS SAYS THAT A WEIRD MARK ON THE GROUND THAT LOOKS LIKE A STAR CAN BE DUG UP TO ONLY FIND TREASURE. GO GET YOUR SHOVEL AND GO FIND SOME FOSSILS RIGHT NOW!"

"The news always has stuff like this. I barely watch the news." Curt sighed.

The news did have weird stuff on it. Like, who cares if someone tripped on a pitfall seed?

Curt turned off the TV. Then he took a sip of his tea and put it down.

"So, tell me about yourself. Where did you come from?" He asked.

"Um, I came from San Diego in California. My parents had low paying jobs, so they couldn't afford to pay taxes, get food, or take care of me. So, my dad found a place where I could stay for free and didn't have to worry about me. I have to stay here until my 20's I think. Or probably when I turn 18." I explained.

"Wow. How old are you right now?"

"11 years old."

"Oof. Ya got a lot of years to go until you get out of here. Do ya like it here?"

"I guess. I'm actually getting kind of comfortable since there's another human here."

"Oh yeah, Alex. That boy had a tragic backstory."

"Oh."

"Would you like me to explain?"

"Yes please."

"Well, Alex came here when he was 10. His parents left him behind and he stayed with his drunk uncle. Alex got bad beatings with his stupid uncle. He couldn't take it anymore, so he ran away and took his uncle's money. It was enough money to afford a train ride to somewhere far from where he lived. Eventually, he ended up here."

"Poor Alex."

"That boy is now happy with us. Are you happy?"

"Well, kind of. I miss my parents and my best friend, Carter."

"Did you know that you could write letters to your parents. They can send some too."

"They can?!" Suddenly, my heart was with joy. I could tell my parents how I'm doing!

I could ask them how Carter is doing. I wonder if he's having a hard time.

A while later, I left Curt's house. It was 7 o' clock and I needed to go home...er, to my room. I waved to Curt and walked to Reese's and Cyrus's pink house. On the way, I bumped into someone.

"Owww..." I moaned.

"Ah! Sorry, Berry." It was Alex. I think we're going to run into each other everytime.

"I'm fine." I told him. Then, I thought about his story that Curt told me about.

"That's good. Hey, you wanna come to my house?" He asked my with a large smile.

"Well..." I looked at my watch that Carter gave me a while back. "Okay."

"Great!" Alex took my wrist and ran to his house.

"Ow! Could your grip be a little loose?" I yelled.

"Sorry, but we're here anyway!" Alex laughed.

I looked at his house. It was pretty decent. His house was white and the fencing and the roof was blue.

"La bienvenida a mi casa!" Alex announced. He then did a peace sign with his fingers. "It means 'welcome to my house' in Español."

"Like I alreay knew that." I mumbled. Carter said that to me the first time we went to his house. Another weird thing was that he said the exact same thing after.

"It's nice, but I have to go home. Need to make dinner." I grinned.

"But...but, I haven't even showed you the rest of my house!" He frowned.

"Okay fine. Show me the house and then I'll go home." I sighed.

He opened the door. I stepped into his house.
